Karoo in One Piece

Past

Karoo had been living as Vivi’s personal pet since she was young. He is her oldest and closest friend. Later on, Karoo was appointed as the captain of the Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops. When Vivi got to know about Baroque Work’s plot against Alabasta, she infiltrated that place under the name ‘Miss Wednesday’ with Igaram aka ‘Mr. 8’. Karoo followed his mistress and was her faithful battle mount.

Whiskey Peak Arc

After two years of infiltration, Karoo, Vivi, and Igaram arrived at Whisky Peak. When the Straw Hat Pirates set sail, the town tried to attack them, but Roronoa Zoro defeated them. Later, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine met Vivi and Igaram, telling them that the head of Baroque Works had discovered their infiltration and had ordered their execution. It was seen that the Straw Hats helped Karoo and Vivi escape Whisky Peak. Karoo accepted their help faster than Vivi, despite not knowing any of the details, and boarded the Going Merry before either she or the Straw Hats.

Little Garden Arc

The Going Merry arrived at Little Garden following the classic Log Pose path. Karoo had to follow Luffy and Vivi when they departed to investigate since they were both fascinated by the area's rainforests. Vivi and Karoo were at first afraid of the Giants, but then accepted their hospitality. They were unaware that Mr. 5, Miss Valentine, Mr. 3, and Miss Goldenweek had already tracked them to the island.

Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine arrived. Karoo protested even as they beat him up and bribed him to call for Vivi. However, his efforts were in vain since Dorry quickly trapped Luffy, allowing Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine to easily overpower and kidnap Vivi.

Drum Island Arc

The crew decided to take a diversion in search of medical help when Nami became ill after leaving Little Garden. Karoo stayed behind with Zoro to defend Merry while the rest of the crew left. Karoo jumped after Zoro out of fear that he would freeze in the cold water, but still managed to freeze. He was not found until a cured Nami and Tony Tony Chopper returned back to the ship with the rest of the crew.

Alabasta Arc

When they reached Alabasta and realized a civil war was about to break out, Vivi sent Karoo a letter describing all the information they knew about Baroque Works and Crocodile's schemes, while she and the others tried to stop Koza's rebel army at Yuba. Cobra was taken from the palace and was impersonated by Mr. 2. The Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops were sent to meet the crew outside of Alubarna after Karoo decided that they required more assistance.

In order to distract the Officer Agents stationed close to Alubarna's gates, the Straw Hats agreed to act as decoys, each riding a duck and using an identical cloak. "Usopp"(Mr. 2) met Vivi and brutally stomped Karoo when the rebels flooded Alubarna and coldly eliminated the latter. Karoo was somewhat brought back to help Vivi leave when she became suspicious and used his arm sign to reveal his true identity. Karoo got hit by a stray gunshot as soon as he entered the city, but his actions gave Sanji and two of the other Spot-Billed Duck Troops enough time to retreat and shoot Mr. 2. Karoo was taken to a hospital by his soldiers as Sanji fought Mr. 2.

He recovered fully to join the others at the Nefertari family's celebration meal after Baroque Works had been defeated and the battle was over. The following day, he carried Vivi to a shoreside farewell to the Straw Hats who were leaving. Although the crew was unable to respond out loud because of their fear of the Marines seeing them, they all lifted their arms in a show of friendship, which Karoo and Vivi returned.

Enies Lobby

After the Enies Lobby incident, when the Straw Hats got their bounties, Karoo was subsequently spotted.

Marineford Arc

After the Marineford War, Karoo and Vivi were shocked by Luffy's actions when they read an article about Luffy's second visit to Marineford.

Zou Arc

The Nefertari Family went to Mary Geoise with Chaka, Pell, and Igaram as the time for Levely came close.

Levely Arc

Karoo learned about Luffy's adventures at Totto Land while traveling to the Levely. Later, everyone who was part of the Arabasta Kingdom arrived at Mary Geoise. Karoo joined Vivi at the palace while she talked to Rebecca and Shirahoshi about Luffy. Karoo stood next to Vivi as Donquixote Mjosgard made a vow to protect Shirahoshi during the Levely after preventing Charlos from kidnapping Shirahoshi.

Karoo provides a lot of comedic relief to the anime. He is also very intelligent and can understand human language. He can get frightened easily when face to face with danger but no matter what happens, he will stay loyal to Vivi and never leave her side. He is ready to sacrifice himself for her. Karoo has a huge appetite and is known to be gluttonous. He is also very loyal to his friends and is always determined to finish his task at hand.

Karoo is a yellow duck with black-tipped wings and tail feathers. He also has a black band around his bill like the rest of his species and is almost as tall as an average human. His feet are like that of a tetradecyl. He wears a blue and white chullo with pink goggles and carries a large saddle that has multiple saddlebags inside it. Whenever Karoo is traveling, he wears a barrel-shaped canteen around his neck with a drinking straw.

As Karoo is the captain of the Spot-Billed Duck Troops, he is kept at a high rank. Speed and stamina is the strong point of this species and they are well-trained in carrying and acclimating the riders. He can cross great distances on only a small amount of water. This shows that Karoo is very durable and is also seen surviving even though he is severely injured. He even survived a stampede once and was unharmed. His wings allow him to fly and are strong as well for combat. Despite all this, Karoo is seen as having less capacity for battles even when he is seen coordinating, and can even confuse strategies.

Nefertari Vivi

Karoo has been Vivi's companion ever since she was a young girl. He has always been close to her and he even helped her infiltrate Baroque Works. He expresses his affection for her in Arabasta by rescuing her from the rebels and bringing her to Alubarna.

Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops

Karoo has command over The Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops. The warriors are fiercely devoted to Karoo and Vivi, to the point where they helped the two of them and the Straw Hats cross the desert and afterward in the battle with Baroque Works. The newest member, Matsuge, helped them defeat Baroque Works and has remained close to the two ever since.

Straw Hats Pirates

Even while Vivi rejected them as Miss Wednesday, Karoo never truly had hatred towards the Straw Hat Pirates, and once they formed an alliance, he was welcomed aboard the Going Merry. He liked the friendship of Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper. He was drawn in by the crew's carefree attitude. He also helped them in their fight against Baroque Works. Karoo was regarded by the Straw Hats as a valuable member.
