The Bara Bara no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to split their own body into pieces and control those pieces in any way they want. It also makes the user immune to slashing attacks, making them into a Splitting Human. It was consumed by Buggy, although accidentally.
The fruit’s powers were first seen, but not properly explained when Buggy lifted and choked one of his own crewmates using his cut-up arm.

When Buggy was a Pirate Apprentice with the Roger Pirates about 27 years ago, the crew came across the Bara Bara no Mi. Shanks taught Buggy about Devil Fruits, which gave users superpowers in exchange for their ability to swim. Buggy, who has lately obtained a treasure map from another pirate ship that depicted treasure at the bottom of the sea, expressed little interest in eating one, but Shanks reminded him that they could be sold for 100,000,000 berries.
Buggy stole the Bara Bara no Mi and created a fake fruit mimicking it, which he gobbled in front of the entire team. Later, in one of the ship’s lifeboats, he floated to himself about his scheme, which involved selling the fruit for money to go after the treasure. When Shanks appeared, he startled Buggy, who hid the fruit in his mouth to keep Shanks from seeing it. He expressed relief before Shanks returned and scared him again, causing Buggy to swallow the entire fruit. He yelled at Shanks after realizing what had happened, only to be shocked as the latter pointed out his treasure map had fallen into the ocean. He dove in to collect it, only to discover that his Devil Fruit was preventing him from moving beneath the ocean’s surface. Shanks saved him by diving in and bringing him back on board. Buggy then resolved to gather all the treasure on the land now that he could no longer grab the treasure under the sea.
The Bara Bara no Mi is an oval-shaped purple fruit (orange in the anime) made up of little spherical pieces with swirls, and a green leafage sprouting on top. It was small enough to fit in one hand and has the appearance of a big raspberry or a small pineapple.
According to Buggy, the fruit’s main strength is that the user becomes forever resistant to damage from being cut or punctured in any form, including Haki-infused slashes. Instead of being irreversibly dismembered by such attacks, the dismembered sections of the user’s body remain entirely under the user's direct control. They can then be freely manipulated to perform unique attacks or be reattached to the body’s remaining portion. Buggy has even shown that he can re-attach himself in a Logia-type manner.
Aside from passive immunity, the user can manually split their body apart without having to be chopped by others in the first place. This is a useful ability in battle because it allows the user to attack through the enemy’s blocking attempts or escape any incoming moves if they notice it coming. The user can also live for lengthy periods of time without being attached to vital limbs and organs of his body.
Furthermore, the levitation effect provided by the freeform control of the parts appears to extend to everything in contact with the user, allowing them to avoid gravity by lifting objects regardless of how heavy they are as long as Buggy has a strong grip on them. Buggy has shown the ability to easily lift people much larger (and possibly heavier) than himself.
Though the user is immune to slashing and piercing attacks, they are still vulnerable to other forms of interaction, such as punches and kicks. Additionally, even when a body part is detached, the user can still feel sensations from whatever happens to that part. When the user is split up, this can be a big weakness because an enemy can do all sorts of things to the other body parts. This involves tickling, pinching, groin kicks, and tying up most of the user’s body parts.
The user can only control his split up parts to a certain distance. If any part travels more than a given distance, the user loses all control over it. This includes levitation as well as the user intentionally using that body part. This distance is a sphere within a diameter of 200 Bara Bara around the point where the person touches the earth.
To be able to levitate any of his body parts, the user's feet must remain on the ground at all times, as they are the only body parts that are incapable of levitation. This can be corrected slightly if someone else carries their feet, since it acts as a footing for them to stand on. Buggy, on the other hand, has been seen running in midair when separated at the waist. It is unknown whether or not this is a continuity error.
Furthermore, in the Impel Down, Buggy’s head was drawn toward his body as soon as his feet left the ground and his body went down the hole to the second floor, as if his components were linked by an invisible force. This somewhat contradicts the mechanisms of his strength when his head and body were split and Luffy blasted his body away but not his head. This could be because his feet were with his head rather than his body at the time.
Aside from all this, the user is vulnerable to standard Devil Fruit flaws.
Initially, Buggy had intended to use the fruit to support his search for an undersea treasure, but he accidentally ate the Bara Bara no Mi. Since then, he has used the fruit’s bestowed powers to help him gather as much treasure as possible on the surface.
Buggy has used his fruit’s powers for battle, to protect himself (by ejecting body parts before any enemy hits him or taking up another individual as a meat shield), and punish those who fail or irritate him (usually by using his split-off hand to suffocate or hold them up in front of a cannon shot). Buggy can easily catch opponents off guard if they try to block his moves by combining his speed with his fondness for trickery and ability with blades.
Buggy is fearless towards any and all swordsmen, due to his ability automatically triggering when his body is cut by external forces, contrary to his usual cowardice against more powerful enemies. His devil fruit allows him to startle opponents who believe they have successfully killed him.
Buggy was forced to travel around the East-Blue in a chibi-like form, which consisted of only his head, hands and feet, following his defeat at the hands of Luffy, which severely limited his skills. The rest of his body stayed still until he was reunited with his missing pieces and became whole again.
After the time skip, Buggy is shown using his Devil Fruit powers in conjunction with an oversize cloak to make himself appear much taller and more frightening, possibly to better fit his new image as a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and leader of the Pirate Dispatch Organisation.
Buggy has demonstrated the following techniques using his Devil Fruit’s powers:
Buggy can shoot his hands at the enemy while holding a weapon.
It’s a variation of Buggy’s Bara Bara Ho, in which he shoots his hand across the ground in order to grab his opponent’s legs.
Buggy attaches one-third of his forearm to his fist in a variant of the Bara Bara Ho, so that if the opponent tries to halt the assault by grasping the forearm, he can easily search his fist and continue the attack. Buggy holds four knives in this attack.
Before performing this technique, Buggy stomps on his shoes to make knives appear out of them. He then cartwheels on the ground towards an opponent, albeit in some forms of media, his entire lower half is able to levitate for a set length of time.
Buggy quickly removes his head from the rest of his body to avoid harm when an attack is aimed at his head.
Buggy’s ultimate attack is to disassemble all of his bodily parts and whirl them around. Then he can either surround his opponent to prevent their escape or pummel him with his body parts at high speed. This attack also makes hitting Buggy tough, however, his feet remain on the ground throughout this move, leaving them vulnerable to assault.
Buggy has a set of wheels and a bomb for a motor, and he can reconfigure himself into a little automobile for rapid escapes.
Buggy detaches his hands and grips an opponent with them before hoisting them into the air. He then rotates his hands to face the ground before sending them flying in a corkscrew pattern back down to earth, landing with a high impact.
A. The Bara Bara no Mi allows its user to split their own body into different pieces and control them separately however they want, which makes them immune to slicing attacks, transforming them into a Splitting Human.
A. The English name for Bara Bara no Mi is Chop-Chop Fruit.
A. Bara Bara no Mi is certainly strong as witnessed by its unusual powers of letting the user split up their own body parts at will and controlling them separately, while also giving them immunity against strong swordsmen, even if they are Haki users.
