Congrats to Thomas Barr – friend of Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium and his magnificent win at the World University Games!
The Ferrybank clubman finished in a time of 48.78 seconds. This follows on from his impressive year where he has been present in 2 diamond leagues while also setting a qualifying time for the World Championships in Beijing next month.
He becomes the first Irish athlete to win a gold medal at the World University Games since Sonia O’Sullivan won the women’s 1,500 metres in Sheffield in 1991, the same day that Niall Bruton also won gold in the men’s 1,500m.
Last Year Thomas Barr and his Olympian Sister Jessie launched the Gain Feeds Select Stakes 2014 with a training session around the circuit at Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium. One might think that this training session led to his performances this year and it might just have given him the edge at the World University Games.
Speaking about his performance today, Carl Pallas, General Manager Kilcohan Park Greyhound Stadium says “Thomas and Jessie are both friends of the stadium and we are all delighted that he has gone on from strength to strength this year. If the two of them want to come back and train at the track we will welcome them both with open arms.”
