For the most part, the trees are now bare of their leaves, we've started to see some spectacular murmurations in the skies above Martin Mere, and huge flocks of pink-footed geese have been making their way back to the British Isles from Iceland.
So, as the weather takes a turn to feel more wintry, we though we'd celebrate the beauty and splendour of what has been an awesome autumn.
It was a frosty morning in Cheshire's Dunham Massey park as Maria-H captured this image of a red deer making its way through the bracken in woodland.

Mick Lowe captured this purple sandpiper. They may look small but they're tough little birds. Setting up home on some of the country's windiest outposts, these hardy birds search for food in seaweed, retreating to safety before the waves come crashing in.

In October we saw our first redwings of the season as they reached British shores from as far away as Russia and Iceland. They'll spend the next few months eating berries from orchards and hedgerows. Lovely image by Tony Taylor.
