An Experimental Study of Promoting Primary School Students' English Speaking Abilities by Natural Spelling Method Based Electronic Micro-Lesson Courseware

Published: 26 July 2022 Publication History

Abstract

The study found that most of the current English phonics teaching content in Chinese primary schools is international phonetic recognition, students do not grasp the natural spelling rules, often use the traditional international phonetic method to memorize words, it is difficult to spell correctly when encountering unknown words, which seriously restricts the development of their English speaking ability. This study developed natural spelling method-based electronic micro-lesson courseware and used it to conduct a 10-week practice experiment with 70 students in 2 classes of Grade 5 of Hangzhou L Primary School. The results show that the electronic courseware based on natural spelling can stimulate students' interest in learning and effectively improve students' vocabulary, reading comprehension and oral ability; the results of vocabulary spelling and oral English for the experimental class increased by 28.21%, while that in the control class with phonetic recitation method increased by only 1.22%.
