Computing beyond pencils

Published: 01 April 2019 Publication History

Abstract

We reflect on the idea that programming languages and environments are tools for the craft practice of building software. By using the metaphor of computers as pencils, we explore the lack of deep diversity in the ecosystem of computational tools, and propose a potential route towards craft-built programs.
