Welcome to the 23rd edition of the Great Lakes Symposium on VLSI (GLSVLSI) 2013 held at Palais des Congràs de Paris, in Paris (France). GLSVLSI is a premier venue for the dissemination of manuscripts of the highest quality in all areas related to VLSI, devices and system-level design. The venue of this year's GLSVLSI is Paris, which does not even hold any worldly famous lake, it shelters several astonishing jewels like the lakes at Bois de Vincennes and Bois du Boulogne. Moreover, we truly believe that Paris is a great location for a symposium on VLSI (another way to build the acronym of GLSVLSI) for 2013 and you will enjoy the beautiful city as well as the program over the two days of this year's GLSVLSI activity.
This year, GLSVLSI is co-located with the 1st ACM European Computing Research Congress (ACM ECRC) and the SIGCHI conference. The goal of the ACM European Computing Research Congress (ACM ECRC) is to co-locate multiple (ACM) European research conferences, workshops, and/or research meetings to create a significant gathering of European computing researchers. Moreover, SIGCHI is the premier international society for professionals, academics and students who are interested in human-technology & human-computer interaction (HCI). The co-located event brings a great opportunity for GLSVLSI's attendees to interact with other first-class researchers from around the world, making this year's symposium a great event.
As for the technical meeting, GLSVLSI 2013 was a resounding success: 238 papers were submitted, including authors from 36 different countries, of which 51 papers were accepted for oral presentation at the symposium (a 21% acceptance rate). Including poster papers, a total of 76 papers, with authors from 27 different countries, will be included in the symposium and published in the conference proceedings. Of these papers in the program, 34% are from North American, 30% from Asia, 29% from Europe, 5% from Africa/Middle East, and 2% from Central/South America. The final technical program consists of 30 full presentations and 21 short presentations in 11 oral sessions and 24 posters in two poster sessions. GLSVLSI 2013 starts on Thursday, May 2nd, with an exciting line up of speakers on a broad range of issues related to test, low power design, CAD, VLSI circuits, emerging technologies, and a session on VLSI for Biology. The technical program continues on Friday, May 3rd, presents the latest industrial and academic research in VLSI design and CAD with additional sessions on test, emerging technologies, and a session dedicated to new VLSI designs for functional units. During these two days, we will have the opportunity to attend two keynote speeches organized by the ACM ECRC, and a GLSVLSI keynote talk discussing the secrets of electronics for a greener planet. The technical program of GLSVLSI 2013 includes two parallel tracks to allow longer presentations and discussions during the two days of the conference. Overall, there are 14 regular sessions in the technical program and a session where the "best paper award" candidates will have the opportunity to present their outstanding work.
Moreover, the social program of GLSVLSI 2013 includes two special events this year. The first event consists on a reception cocktail on Thursday evening. Then, on Friday, May 3rd, a Cruise Gala Dinner will be the second social event, which will be held on The Captain Fracasse boat on the beautiful Seine river. The boat will depart at 20:30 from the Bir-Hakeim bridge, which is located just 3 minutes away from the Eiffel Tower. During the cruise, you will discover the most beautiful landmarks of Paris such as the Eiffel Tower, the Pont de l'Alma and the Musée d'Orsay. The boat will go to the Bercy area and come back to the starting point. During the trip, you will enjoy an elegant dinner of 2 hours in duration.
