Let’s stop Mark Fortune

We are conducting a large-scale investigation into the notorious-thug-cum landlord:, Mark Fortune a.k.a Scotland's worst landlord. He is most infamous for the extremely neglected state of his properties (see pics), refusal to conduct necessary repairs, threatening tenants who request support, and defrauding them by stealing their deposits they leave. He has previously been charged for assault against tenants, even threatening to shoot them. He’s also been successfully taken to court by tenants. In 2013, Mark Fortune became the first person in Scottish history to be removed from the council landlord registry (literally ‘Scotland's worst ever landlord’). This should have been the end of him. Yet, he is using legal loopholes to continue operating, and somehow his business is growing exponentially, with his multi-millionaire property empire comprising approximately 120-200 properties (only 73 are recorded, most of which are based in the meadows).As his empire increases, so do the amount of tenants he exploits and the amount of deposits he steals .More recently, It seems that he is exploiting the pandemic to expand business!! refusing to offer rent reductions to now unemployed tenants, threatening them with evictions etc, and even boasting about the money that he is making from government checks. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! --------------------------The objective---------------------------------- The council and other local authorities have failed to take drastic action against him, partially due to the lack of comprehensive evidence of the mass exploitation and defrauding that occurs. So far, they have treated the very few reported incidents as isolated. Therefore, we are compiling an extensive amount of personal accounts of (ex) tenants, neighbours etc who have interacted with him The investigation is only in it’s preliminary stages,, yet we are left shocked by the recurring patterns in responses. Clearly, with 20+ years of property management and extremely high tenant turnover (possibly in the thousands). through trial and error, he has mastered a highly efficient property management system, one that allows him to neglect tenants rights and rob them of their deposits, whilst minimising any serious repercussions or retaliation. We will present our complete findings of this systematic exploitation to the council and police and make collective demands that further restrictions be placed on his operations and that they be monitored closely .We shall also provide accurate estimates of the amount of illegal money he procured from unlawfully keeping deposits, whilst also making a claim for affected tenants to be refunded. The last aim will be to unite tenants against Mark Fortune, developing a union of ‘fortune flat residents’ who are supported by local organisations (e.g. Living Rent) as well as local bodies (police, council) . This type of direct involvement from authorities would mean tenants rights and deposits would be protected. This type of involvement would be Mark Fortune's worst nightmare. ------------------------- How You Can Help?----------------------- In this early stage, the first priority is to gather qualitative information/testimonies, which is being done via our questionnaires (attached) The higher the response rate, the more conclusive our findings will become and the stronger the response will be from council/police.
