Which familiar faces will join Ted Danson in his Netflix detective comedy, created by Mike Schur? Consider that mystery solved.
A Classic Spy, which stars Danson as a retiree named Charles who becomes a mole in a secret investigation, just announced its ensemble cast, including several actors from previous Schur projects The Good Place and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Rosa) will play Didi, the “all-seeing, all-knowing” managing director of Charles’ San Francisco-based retirement facility; Eugene Cordero (The Good Place‘s Pillboi) will play Charles’ son-in-law Joel; Jama Williamson (The Good Place‘s Val) will play Beatrice, the retirement facility’s upbeat activities director; and Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Kevin and The Good Place‘s Shawn) will play Evan, the client who hires the investigator for which Charles becomes a mole.
Additional casting includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Charles’ daughter Emily, Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Chicago Med) as private investigator Julie, Stephen Mckinley Henderson (Fences) as D.C. transplant Calbert, Sally Struthers (All in the Family) as Charles’ romantic admirer Virginia, Margaret Avery (Being Mary Jane) as Virginia’s BFF Florence, John Getz (Grace & Frankie) as retirement home lothario Elliott, Susan Ruttan (Mom) as Charles’ fashionable neighbor Gladys, Lori Tan Chinn (Orange Is the New Black) as ruthless resident council president Susan, and Clyde Kusatsu (Young Rock) as proud Princeton graduate Grant.
Based on The Mole Agent, a 2021 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Feature, A Classic Spy is executive-produced by Schur, Morgan Sackett, David Miner, Maite Alberdi, Marcela Santibañez, Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements.
Great cast! Hope it turns out good!
Ted Dason?
I thik you cna figur it owt
Ted, Da Son of Jessica and Edward.
This sounds good… although sitcoms set in retirement homes (like “The Cool Kids” and, of course, “B Positive”) haven’t lasted very long.
I’m surprised at how excited I am to see Sally Struthers! Not sure if this was in the works long before the Emmy reunion with Carl Reiner but I’m happy about it. And about the rest of the cast, too!
D’oh! I meant Rob Reiner… (talented family, those Reiners!)
I don’t care about what the show is about i’ll watch it for mike and the cast! And with the highest hope for a new Marc Evan jackson podcast!
This sounds great!
