We have a feeling that the concerned look on Christian Slater‘s face in the photo at the top of this post is only going to intensify when Dexter‘s prequel Original Sin gets underway.
On Friday, Paramount+ With Showtime released the first photos from the upcoming drama, which chronicles the adolescence of the serial-killer character played by Michael C. Hall in the original series. We’ll watch as circa 1991 Dexter is unable to control his “bloodthirsty urges,” per the official logline, and learns to “channel his inner darkness.”
Instrumental in that process is Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry, played by Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) in the prequel (and James Remar in the original). Dexter’s sister, Debra, portrayed by Jennifer Carpenter in the original, now will be played by Molly Brown (Billions). Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) plays the titular role.
The photos released today give us a glimpse of the Morgan family, and the images also hint at Dexter’s burgeoning Dark Passenger.
The series’ cast also includes James Martinez (Love, Victor) as a younger version of Batista; Christina Milian (Grandfathered) as a younger version of LaGuerta; Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist) as a younger version of Masuka; and Reno Wilson (Good Girls) as Bobby Watt, a longtime partner and friend to Dexter Harry.
Original series showrunner Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and executive producer.
Dexter originally aired from 2006 to 2013 on Showtime, earning four Emmy nominations for best drama series, with Hall garnering five nominations for best lead actor in a drama. After an eight-season run, the story continued with a limited series, Dexter: New Blood, that debuted in 2021.

I doubt it will be as great as the original and I hope to be proven wrong.
And I am glad there will (hopefully!) be no sequel with Dexter’s boring son.
I don’t know why I’m so excited about this!
Um, maybe because it’s Dexter. I know I feel Dexter-deprived.
Sold. I didn’t want this to happen, because I loved Michael C Hall in the role and figured nothing could match it the original; and it may not match it in the same way, but I think Christian Slater brings a lot of character to whatever he does.
Same, and not to mention SMG. They knew what they were doing, casting people that would look past most anything to watch. I’ll probably just try to look at it as a new/its own thing, instead of a prequel
I truly hope this is better than the horrible revival, from the info available so far I feel it will be but actual good shows are hard to come by nowadays so I have my doubts but we’ll see.
I know Hollywood loves to recycle, but at some point you’ve got to realize that the product is too worn out to reuse again.
Normally, I’m not a fan of prequels like this, but I’m hoping for the best. Frankly, they kind of had me when they announced Sarah Michelle Gellar was joining the cast.
Been there, done that. we don’t need a Dexter prequel. Won’t be watching. By the way, when did hollywood decide that they no longer needed to have any original ideas?
