This is especially regrettable for ordering and presenting the content. In this paper, we outline how adaptability can be applied to e-learning environments. We dis- cuss two environments that support a certain adaptability. We conclude by outlining plans for future adaptability research and development.

Extant approaches to algorithm visualization (AV) construction range from low-level programming t... more Extant approaches to algorithm visualization (AV) construction range from low-level programming to mouse-clicking through a WIMP - Window, Icon, Menu, Pointing Device - interface. These approaches, while varying in degrees of ease of use, strike us as somewhat wanting in naturalness, if not downright restrictive. Based on observations of an on-going study, we argue that (1) without any coding or button clicking, students should be able to draw objects and control their movement with a pointing device or just their hands; (2) recording of students’ spoken explanation during the construction process should be supported by the AV system. By integrating hand movement and voice, two basic human affordances, into a new focus of the algorithm visualization construction approach, our work-in-progress aims to replicate the kind of low-tech, pen-and-paper AV construction experience and translates it into a computer-based AV system.

Many systems allow educators or learners to add annotations and to exchange them. However, the systems differ in their features and the supported didactical scenarios. The great variety makes it more difficult to get an overview and to decide which system to choose for a certain scenario. This paper presents both scenarios and categories to provide a structured overview of annotation tools for lecture materials. It further reveals gaps in the systems and opportunities for further research.
