I am Noor Al-Anqar, a mother of three young children from Gaza. I want to share with you the suffering of my little ones all under the age of seven.

My eldest son, Hussein, wakes up every morning saying,

"Mama, I’m hungry."

I stall, trying to avoid his gaze there’s no flour to bake bread, not even in the markets. It’s only sold on the black market at unbearable prices.

He keeps waiting for me, running after me, saying,

"Mama, I’m hungry, my stomach hurts, I want to eat..."

By midday, I manage to prepare some red lentil soup, and we eat. But as soon as we’re done, he says,

"Mama, I’m still not full... nothing fills me up."

His words shatter my heart.

My sweet daughter Rajaa, who used to enjoy sweets and drink milk, now cries for food.

She cries, asking for something sweet, but there’s nothing.

She keeps recalling the old days, telling me about when I brought her donuts, when we ate shawarma, drank cola, and had pizza.

She misses food more than anything else in the world.

Then there’s my baby Youssef, born just a month before the war.

There’s no milk, no healthy food to feed him. His little body is fragile and thin.

Ever since diaper prices soared, I can’t afford them anymore.

I’ve tried to teach him to use the toilet, but he’s too young to understand. He wets himself all day and cries constantly.

He hasn’t seen a single beautiful thing since he was born.

My own needs have become the last thing I think about.

All I want is to provide them with enough food to survive.

I long for just one day of peace. We are living a nightmare.

It breaks my heart to see my children suffer like this.

Tell me what wrong have they done to deserve such a life at this age?

A life that has drained the strength of grown adults imagine what it’s done to a child...
