According to reports, the average U.S. household spends close to $3,000 each year on entertainment. How does your household or city match up with statistics such as this? Do you have lots to see and do in your area? Is your family surrounded by playgrounds, restaurants, walking trails, and places for live music and dancing? WalletHub, the personal-finance website, recently released its report on 2019’s Most Fun Cities in America, and for whatever reason, Texas cities didn’t break the top 10! There are two, however, that made it into the top 20 of fun cities.

To help those who are interested in locating their family where there are amenities to keep you invested in and enthused about your community, WalletHub released its facts on the U.S cities that are the most fun to live in based on the greatest number of things to do, coupled with other factors. There also needed to be a variety of inexpensive as well as fun activities. In the process, over 180 American cities were compared by the company, using 66 key metrics. These ranged from details with respect to craft breweries, movie theatres, and even fitness clubs per capita.

In the top 10 fun cities, Las Vegas, Nevada, ranked the best, followed by Orlando, Florida, and New York, New York. From fourth through tenth, the cities listed as Miami, Florida, then Chicago, Illinois, followed by Atlanta, Georgia, and San Francisco, California. Next was Portland, Oregon, San Diego, California, and Los Angeles, California. Finally, at number 11 was Austin, Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. It wouldn’t be until the 19th spot that a Texas city would show again, and that was Houston.
Some key takeaways from this WalletHub study were that the most restaurants per square foot of population belonged to New York, New York. San Francisco, California, and Boston, Massachusetts tied for the amount of walkable park access, New York, New York took the title for number of playgrounds, and San Francisco beat out everyone else for the highest number of dance clubs. Oklahoma City took the lead for the lowest average beer price (now, how did a Texas city not rank in this listing?!) and the lowest movie cost went to Port St. Lucie, in Florida.
