about

Terror/Cactus and Cuervo Cuervo met through social media, brought together by a love for music that combined Latin American folk traditions with electronic downtempo. Working remotely and exchanging stems via email, they created Agua Mágica, an EP of four songs that explore Latin folk rhythms including cumbia, bailecito, and milonga.

Their collaboration began with the title track “Agua Mágica”, which was inspired by the natural beauty and fascinating ecology of Lake Bacalar in Mexico. It started with a field recording that Selasco (Terror/Cactus) took on a dock late one night on the lagoon of seven colors. After sending a rough demo to Cuervo Cuervo, the song quickly came alive with magical sounds of Agustín Ganem’s ronroco and Benjamin Hill’s brilliant sense of melody, harmony, and song structure. The final result is a track that feels mystical, uplifting, and psychedelic at the same time - filled with vibrato guitars, swirling synthesizers, and an infectious cumbia-inspired beat.

The second track, “Leafhopper”, also draws inspiration from nature, this time with an audio sample of the insect whose name inspired the title of the song. Through experimentation and improvisation, the track evolved to incorporate tropical rhythms, jazzy influences, and a strong melodic theme brought to life by Detroit saxophonist, Jake Shadik.

Next, "Algarrobo" offers us a nostalgic and cinematic milonga filled with acoustic guitars and absract synthesizers - a sci-fi journey through a dusty South American landscape.

The final track, "Cielo Andino", is inspired by type of Bolivian song called bailecito. Dedicated to the natural beauty of the Andean highlands, the track features the brilliant quena playing of Walter Arjona.

Terror/Cactus is the digital folklore and psychedelic electro-cumbia project of Martín Selasco. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in Miami, the Seattle-based producer draws from a wide variety of Latin-American influences in his productions including Argentine folk, Peruvian chicha, and Colombian cumbia.

Cuervo Cuervo is the project of Argentinian ronroco master Agustin Ganem and American producer Benjamin Hill. The two met in Bacalar, Mexico in 2018 and have been an unstoppable force ever since. Their project unifies Latin American and North American folk traditions, weaving new tapestries of sound. They have released music through Fertíl Discos, Ritmos del Sur, and Cosmovision, among others, with many releases forthcoming.
