NATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS (NAEP)

NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. NAEP hosts a blog and the site provides links to a variety of resources and tools, which are highlighted below.

  • NAEP Information for Educators - Find answers to frequently asked questions about NAEP, view the types of questions featured in the surveys and assessments, and learn how to access the data.
  • NAEP Data Explorer (NDE) - Create customizable tables and graphics to display NAEP results.
  • NAEP Questions Tool - Search thousands of questions by grade, year, and content area. Test your students on the questions from NAEP assessments, and create customized assessments.
  • NAEP Test Yourself - Have your students select a subject and test themselves using NAEP questions.
  • NAEP Science Interactive Tasks - Test your students' 4th, 8th, and 12th grade science skills with interactive computer and hands-on tasks.
  • NAEP Survey Questionnaires - Access the student, school, students with disabilities or limited English proficiency, and teacher questionnaires from 2003–2016, which include questions about students' opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom and students' educational experiences.
  • NAEP Frameworks - Read about the NAEP assessment organizing frameworks, which are the blueprints that guide the development of the assessment instruments and determine the content to be assessed.

ANNUAL REPORTS

The Annual Reports and Information group produces several reports each year that draw from over 25 surveys by NCES and other government agencies. These wide-ranging data sources allow our reports to provide a comprehensive view of key issues facing the U.S. education system.

The primary purpose of the more than 70 Fast Facts on the website is to provide users with concise information on a range of educational issues, from early childhood to adult learning.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR EDUCATION EVALUATION AND REGIONAL ASSISTANCE

The National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance (NCEE) is one of the four centers of the Institute of Education Sciences (the other centers are NCES, National Center for Education Research, and National Center for Special Education Research). NCEE conducts rigorous evaluations of federal programs, synthesizing and disseminating information from evaluation and research, and providing technical assistance to improve student achievement through the work of the evaluation division and the knowledge utilization division that includes:
