City to host international short film festival, TV drama trade fair
    2025-02-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE 14th China International New Media Short Film Festival and the inaugural China TV Drama Production Industry Conference & 10th China (Shenzhen) International TV Drama Program Trade Fair will take place simultaneously in Futian and Guangming districts from Feb. 19 to 23.

The events aim to set industry benchmarks, lead industry standards, and develop market ecology, according to a press conference held by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office last week.

Centering on the concept of “Four Chains” — innovation, industry, capital, and talent — the gatherings aspire to further propel the high-quality growth of Shenzhen’s film and TV industry, elevate its reputation, and facilitate the production of outstanding locally made films and TV dramas.

The events will see participation from industry luminaries, international directors, internet influencers, and film and TV company representatives in engaging activities like industry visits, creative collaborations, resource exchanges, and city promotions.

Since its inception in Guangming in 2013, the short film festival has become the flagship event among the district’s top 10 cultural brands. As the only State-endorsed international short film festival in China, it encompasses competitions, public screenings, and forums.

This year’s festival will include short films and videos, microfilms, and micro videos. Highlighting science fiction elements, the festival will introduce a science fiction short film competition. Additionally, a joint initiative titled “Popular Science through Micro-dramas” will be launched in collaboration with the National Space Administration and the China Association for Science and Technology. The festival will also highlight AI applications, aiming to explore the integration of films and TV dramas and technology.

Additionally, the introduction of an industry index at the festival underlines a push for industry integration and investment attraction in Shenzhen’s vibrant film and television industry.

Leveraging its technological strengths, scenic environment, and established ultra-high-definition video industry, Guangming aims to become a high-tech “movie hub” with digital photography studios, post-production facilities, talent training, and sci-fi industry.

Futian is set to curate innovative programs during the short film festival and trade fair, including tailored promotions of Shenzhen’s film and television resources, exhibitions of local enterprises, and engagements with renowned screenwriters to boost networking and trade collaborations.
