Oliver Cromwell was a political leader in England, Ireland, and Scotland from 1653 until his death in 1658. He removed the monarchy from power and signed the death warrant of King Charles I. After Cromwell's death, the monarchy was restored under King Charles II, who had Cromwell's body exhumed and hung as revenge for signing the death warrant.
