REO / LANSING / USA ( 1906 - 1936 ) later DIAMOND - REO
It is a pleasure to collect REO emblems. There are so much variations as it was a very long lived firm. You still can find never seen before emblems.
The three letters REO are standing for Ransom Ellis Olds, the founder of the Oldsmobile.
But in 1906 he was forced to found a new car manufactory.

1905 REO (16 HP touring car ) brass radiator with engraved letter REO - so far no separat emblem |
In 1910 the first enameled emblem was mounted on the radiator. It was the same year when REO established a second factory in Canada. Only this year the wings are showing down.
So here I present you the ultra rare Canadian wings down emblem:

The next emblem - of a long series - showing the wings upwards - is the 1912 emblem of REO THE FIFTH.
It was a best seller, REO became number 7 of the US automobile industry after FORD, WILLYS-OVERLAND, STUDEBAKER, BUICK, CADILLAC and HUPMOBILE.
So it is not really difficult to find this emblem:

The next emblem is from the REO, Model T-6, the first REO with a six-cylinder engine, so you can read THE SIX. REO was still in the top 10 of the U.S. car industry so it is quite easy to find a well preserved emblem:

This is a rare REO (RIO) emblem. They used it when exporting cars to South America. Nice play on words as the pronunciation is the same. The "RIO" was even a trademark, filed in December 1928 by REO.

Do you like my REO emblem collection ?
After 1936 REO was no longer in the car industry, but they still produced commercial trucks under the name DIAMOND - REO until the seventies. Today VOLVO owns the rights of the brandname.
For more emblems from other automobiles see top right of this page ( list of car makers ).
When using a smart phone please use the button web view.
I have the 3" round REO Flying Cloud emblem. It decorates the bumper on the front of the, I think, 1936. Can you tell me anything about it ?
ReplyDeleteIn the pic of you collection, I see one that I have and was wondering if you could tell me what it's off of. Left column, 2nd from bottom with black background. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis particular emblem is from a 1930 REO Speed Wagon 2–Ton Lading.
ReplyDeleteWould look better back on the cars they belong on. I am searching for emblems to go on mine and because people snatch them up for collections (like yours) to look at and never use is sad. I mean no disrespect to you, but it is kind on like buying the hands to a antique clock and using a digital.
ReplyDeleteWhy don´t you ask the collector to sell the emblem ?
ReplyDeleteBy the way: without collectors most of all emblems would be thrown away or scrapped with the whole car and you have no chance at all to buy one !
Thanks for helping me identify my emblem! Great collection!
ReplyDeleteReally nice collection i think i have one you dont but you have a couple i dont. Looking for a early reo radiator shell to display in. Love your display.
ReplyDeleteHope you got the pictures of my r-o emblem, if not i will try to send again im not very good on this ph.
ReplyDeleteNo, please send again. Thanks
DeleteDid you get the r-o emblem pix i sent by email?
ReplyDeleteNow I got the pictures, but in a bad quality. Please send again to:
ReplyDeleteemblemcollection@gmail.com
so I can answer directly ( no public correspondance )
Thanks
Hi, I have a 1936 flying cloud hearse, currently doing this beautiful machine up, and as far as I can find out it is one of a kind and appears to be oyt of the factory as no seams in the body work. I would love to find two basic body emblems as these are missing. Any ideas where i can go for these?.
ReplyDeleteBob
Please send an email with pictures of the emblems to: emblemcollection@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have a very small emblem. It is only about an inch long. It is rounded, meaning, it doe no lie flat . Do you know what it could be?
ReplyDelete
