Despite her album 25 leaking online early, Adele is clearly still having an amazing week. Not only did she debut her song "When We Were Young" to acclaim, she also managed to do something we would have thought impossible: She made a hairstyle that essentially looks like a replica of the Devo hat look amazing.
For those of you too young to remember and/or didn't see the movie Raising Helen, Devo was the band behind the song "Whip It" (yes, as in "whip it good") who inexplicably wore matching geometric hats. They called them "energy domes," and no, we're not making this up. This was a thing that happened in the '80s, and we thought it was cool. If you weren't there, you can't judge.
Anyway, the wide bun Adele just wore mimics it quite well. Not that the 'do suffers from the comparison—on the contrary, it makes our hearts feel warmer to it. It's a visual reminder Adele knows deep down that when a problem comes along you must whip it. Maybe that's why her lyrics are so intensely touching.
Now she's not only our songstress superhero and our body image role model, but also our ambassador of surprisingly pretty hairstyles that remind us of questionable band wardrobe choices of the past.
Psst…you can hear her new song here.
