Imam al-Hussein Shrine
Shi'ite Muslims flocked to Karbala, Iraq in April 2003 in a pilgrimage outlawed by Saddam Husein for 30 years. It's been reported that more than 1 million pilgrims prayed, marched and sang commemorating the martyrdom of the grandson of the prophet Muhammad 14 centuries ago. Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite took this one-meter image of the Imam al-Hussein shrine in Karbala January 3, 2003.
