I am a member of the Centre for Research in Healthcare Engineering, the Database Group, and the Knowledge Media Design Institute.

Research

My research interests are in the areas of Data Management Systems and the Web.

Recent research projects:

LinkedMDB publishes the first linked open dataset for movies, with millions of RDF triples and hundreds of thousands of interlinks to semantic web datasets and other websites.
DescribeX an Eclipse-based tool for creating and visualizing structural descriptions of XML collections based on summaries. DescribeX summaries are specified by partitions created using a novel notion: bisimilarity applied to subgraphs described by an axis path regular expression.
Participation in the Initiative for the Evaluation of XML Retrieval (INEX 2008, INEX 2007, and INEX 2006). Also related to our research on XML Retrieval, our publication on Structural Relevance was selected as the Runner Up for Best Interdisciplinary Paper Award at CIKM 2008.
XPlainer an Eclipse-based tool that provides visual explanations of the evaluation of XPath queries.
TAB a benchmark of the capabilities of autonomic tools that recommend RDBMS database configurations.

Past research projects:

Teaching

Currently, I teach Information Engineering undergraduate courses in "Data Modelling" and in "Business Process Engineering", and a graduate seminar on "Research Topics in XML Retrieval".

In the past, I have lectured graduate courses at the University of Waterloo in "XML Technologies in e-commerce Applications", "Advanced Database Searching Techniques", "Data Warehousing Technology", and "Resource Discovery in Global Information Systems".
