Today I came in to Dr. De Brito's office for the second time. I was seen within 15 minutes and once in had a good session. Despite of my challenges Dr. De Brito was compassionate, funny and kind. He is genuine and straight foward in his approach.
It's nice to go to a family owned practice and they also have therapists on site which is convenient.
I would encourage the receptionists to be more proactive, smile and greet right away, check and update if appointments are running late and note my name the 1st time. A stronger admin staff would be a nice touch.
      Nice building design.

I had originally written a good review for Dr. de Brito but my conscience made me return after I read an article about the harm that can be done by unkind/unprofessional mental health providers. I regret giving De Brito a good review as his approach/methods were unorthodox and inconsistent with the care I had received elsewhere. In fact, the only reason I gave a good review is because Dr. De Brito offered to waive my copay fee in exchange for a good review. I'm sorry if my previous review led anyone to this man.

I've just visited this office for the first and last time.

Dr. DeBrito's manner is abrupt and forceful--in my first visit he repeatedly asked me questions about what I'm looking for in a romantic relationship, what is my sexuality, what dating app I'm using to try to meet men. He asked "for example, do you get upset you find men are just trying to have sex with you?"

When I told him I am not used to answering these questions from a medical provider he said, "playing VERY close to the vest".

I saw this man for 2 years, mostly because I didn't know where else to go for meds. However, in that time, I witnessed him berating his office staff, and I watched his therapy team eagerly sign on and then leave within a couple months, if that, after watching how he talked to staff AND patients. This man has no right to be doing clinical work. Even if his technical knowledge is sound, he is abusive, dismissive, and egregiously condescending - to the point it's destructive to the patient. The long waits aren't a function of how busy he is, but of how terrible he is a person. I have waited for over an hour many, MANY times before, because he decided he needed to yell (not speak firmly to) at his office staff over minutiae for extended periods of time.

He once had me take a computer based diagnostic test in an open office floor plan, and then stood next to me for half the test yelling at a staffer about how she...used the copy machine wrong or something. And then when my results came back screwed up, refused to admit that maybe him being a dick in my ear may have influenced the results.

When he got arrested (Pasadena Star News, May 2016) for assault neither I nor any of my friends that had passed through his clientele list, were the least bit surprised.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this physician. He Was my doctor at Huntington Hospital and then saw me in his office upon discharge.

In the hospital one day he asked how I was doing and I explained my symptoms and he said, " You need to stop that shit".

In his office, he made his breakfast while talking to me. A banana in a blender making a smoothie.

The office was filthy. He took phone calls, had people walking in.

I am surprised a reputable hospital like Huntington would have this man on staff.

      Stay away

DO NOT GO! ALL THE ONE STAR REVIEWS ARE TRUE! I STRESS IT ENOUGH. I had lots of happen but the worse was netting with him and after one short session , getting diagnosed with ADHD. Not only that but when I asked for my history with him he had the nerve to tell me I have to pay for 3 more sessions to get MY HISTORY/PAPERWORK . It wasn't till I called back explaining how I was gonna get a lawyer for violating HIPPA laws that he said "whatever just give him his records." I don't really like leaving negative reviews but this is a serious practice that can affect people in the worst way possible.

I don't know what I was expecting, going to see a doctor on Friday the 13th, but this was a weird and not very positive experience...I called my insurance and asked who was in network and this doctor was, so I called and scheduled an appointment...

Got to the office and waited. Two hours. I asked some other people waiting and they said the doctor running behind schedule was common. Wish they had told me when I made my appointment. I wanted to leave and someone said "be sure to tell them (the girls in reception) so you aren't charged a fee," so I did, and the doctor over heard it and took me in right away.

I sat down with him for about 15 minutes, 5 of which he was on his cell phone on another phone call (business related but still pretty unprofessional), and didn't really look up from his dual iPad setup much when he was talking to me. I felt like I could have done this over the phone and saved myself a few hours of time.

I've been seeing Dr. de Brito for sometime now. I've read the other reviews and while I do agree that he can run a little on the late side....his care and diagnosis for me has been invaluable. Dr de Brito is thorough and has always been patient and listened to my concerns about certain medications. With his expertise and the correct prescriptions my relationships are thriving and my work is going much better.
The staff are helpful and kind. They always accommodate me if I'm the one running late and fit me in when I need an appointment.
I'm very pleased with this office.

      Updated review

DOCTOR DE BRITO IS AN AMAZING, CARING DOCTOR WHO SAVED MY LIFE!!!!--
It's obvious that this site has totally phony reviews--there's clearly a group trolling this excellent doctor--they all "update" phony reviews from 5 years ago that all vote for each other! I had gone through 2 other psychiatrists here in LA and then I was referred to Dr. de Brito from a therapist in San Francisco--its like dr. De Brito could see inside my head!! Although he has excellent academic pedigree (Columbia and I think Harvard or Yale) I don't particularly think this is a super important factor. BUT HE LISTENED TO EVERY WORD I SAID. I heard from the therapist from San Francisco that Dr. De Brito has an outstanding, stellar reputation among peers, colleagues, and patients in the community--his colleagues regularly send him their own toughest patients for a consult. He has been a consistent role model for trainees and colleagues alike. Patients uniformly praise his clinical acumen and superb bedside manner, all professional without wasted time or fake caring that does not translate into helping us, the patient. I moved out here about a year and a half ago struggling with some serious anxiety problems and medication issues. His staff seemed excellent when I made the appointment. When I met him, he was friendly and REAL--and that is so key to me. I cant stand doctors who pretend they are above us, and just stay silent, like they are judging us--Doctor de Brito is very real, and totally present, and ever since, I've felt like I've had a top professional who knows every bit of the recent research to help me. He was able to slowly and patiently adjust my mood stabilizer so that I have had NO side effects and I am about 400% more comfortable, all the time--with no addictive meds whatsoever. He really eased the huge worries I had trying a new med, helped me for sure feel that I wasn't alone in my struggle. I appreciate doctor De Brito's conservative approach to medicine, and that helped me trust him from the beginning. I see why his waiting room was packed--this doctor is greatly in demand, but the wait time was not bad at all. I see that he has like 40 great reviews and his waiting room has people that on their own tell each other how grateful they are. It's also pretty obvious there are bogus reviews, I saw them when I was looking up directions to his office, talking about nothing at all to do with the experience that I have ever had with any doctor, let alone this kind and humorous man--its pretty funny that people put bogus reviews to pull someone down that has nothing to do with how great his real treatment is--you think this many people would be this grateful and they are all wrong?? Definitely made a huge difference in my life, I've made huge progress, and to me most importantly has never tried to overload me with medications. With any change we ever made in the meds, I feel like he really was open to my input and explained exactly why it might be better, and then it was! He is extremely personable and has many years of experience! I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking mental health expertise.

      Updated review

I came to Dr. de Brito one year ago to seek help. He was referred to me by both my brother and a dear friend, both of whom received excellent care from Dr. de Brito. In fact, I credit Dr. de Brito for giving my brother his life back.

As for me, when I first came to Dr. de Brito, I was distraught and in a deep depression. I can hardly remember walking through the door. What I do remember is that Dr. de Brito was an immediate comfort and that he gave me hope with his heartfelt assurance that everything would be ok. At the time, I was scared to death and felt that my whole world was falling apart; Dr. de Brito made me feel that there was a path that might take me safely through everything that was crumbling around me and through my feelings of loss and hopelessness.

When I began seeing Dr. de Brito I was on several addictive medicines. Over the past year, Dr. de Brito has spent hours helping me with my medicines. Dr. de Brito immediately weaned me off the medicines that were highly addictive. I was told by other doctors that it was nearly impossible to get off these medicines and that it wasn't necessary. Most of the medicines, I had been on them for over 30 years for anxiety. Dr. de Brito encouraged me that getting off these medications was possible and, in over a course of a month or less, I was completely off of the addictive medicines, and haven't looked back. I really did not believe that I could be weaned off, and, I must say, I was quite surprised that it worked!

I am now on non-addictive medicines, without side effects. He has patiently worked with me to figure out what medicines work best for me. He has also built a rapport with me that makes me feel safe. Feeling depressed and being full of anxiety is something that has been really hard for me to understand. Dr. de Brito has explained things to me in terms I understand, and he has a way of communicating that helps to shift my perspective. Every time I have a rough day, I call Dr. de Brito because he has that voice that reminds me that the sky is blue. Even when I say the clouds are black, he always turns it around and makes me see that the sky is blue. He helps me see the bright side instead of the doom and gloom.

I know Dr. de Brito to be compassionate and to be someone who genuinely cares for his patients. He always takes his time during our visits; he does not rush through appointments and he makes you feel that any questions or concerns you have are important to him, too. Although sometimes that means that there is a wait time for appointments, it is worth it.

Over the years, I have had many different doctors, but Dr. de Brito is the best there is, and I rely on him all the time. He is such a caring man, and I'm extremely grateful for walking through his door last September. It takes courage for all of us when we are not sure what's next and when we feel lost. I would refer Dr. de Brito hands down to anyone I know. Dr. has really changed my life.

Thank you Dr. de Brito for being there, and giving me the encouragement to continue living life. Kim
