Participation in Democrats Abroad's delegate selection process is open to all U.S. nationals who will be 18 years of age or older on 8 November 2016, who reside temporarily or permanently outside the United States and who wish to participate as Democrats. Voters must declare that they have not participated and will not participate in the any other delegate selection process (caucus, primary or other method) for the 2016 presidential election.

Tuesday 1 March - Tuesday 8 March 2016: Global Party Run Primary. 13 of the 17 delegate votes to the Democratic National Convention are pledged to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's Democrats Abroad Global Party Run Primary. Participants may vote by fax, email, in person, or postal mail. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates. Each voter may cast a vote for 1 Presidential candidate or uncommitted. Write-ins are not permitted.

Wednesday 23 March - Sunday 3 April 2016: First-Tier and Country Caucuses elect delegates to the Regional and Country Committee Caucuses. Participation in a First-Tier Caucus shall be open to any person who is a member of Democrats Abroad.

Thursday 28 April - Friday 13 May 2016: Democrats Abroad will hold a Regional Caucus in each of its 3 Regions. 9 At-Large National Convention delegates are elected according to the results of the Global Primary. Each Regional Caucus is entitled to elect at least 1 National Convention delegate. The number of delegates elected in each region is proportional to the percentage of votes cast in that region.

• Americas Region: Sanders 1, Clinton 1.
• Asia - Pacific Region: Sanders 1, Clinton 1.
• Europe - Middle East - Africa Region: Sanders 3, Clinton 2.

Saturday 14 May 2016: The Global Convention meets in Berlin, Germany to elect 1 Pledged PLEO, and 3 At-large National Convention delegates according to the results of the primary.

DEMOCRATS ABROAD is allocated 17 delegate votes at the Democratic National Convention but will be sending 21 persons who will be acknowledged as "delegates" on the floor of the Convention.

• The 8 Democratic National Committee members from Democrats Abroad cast the 4 Unpledged PLEO delegate votes on the floor of the Convention (each such "Unpledged PLEO delegate" casting ½ vote).
