Solemn Simulacrum

Artifact Creature — Golem

When this enters, you may search your library for a basic land card and put that card onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

When this dies, you may draw a card.

Seuchenschutz, thanks for the comment and suggestions

I have been looking to remove Solemn Simulacrum for a while. I have found I dont really need the land drop or 1 card draw in this deck so much. Of the cards you suggested, I really like Balor as a replacement. Having an extra flying blocker is nice. and the 3 card draw is funny. Any draw for my opponents that requires discard is always nice.

As for In the Web of War, I already have two haste enabling enchantments Fervor and Roar of Resistance. They both have a lower CMC, and although the +2/0 is nice, I usually have so many snakes in a 3-4 player game, it kinda doesnt matter.

I like Black Vise as a fun addtion, but not sure what I can take out for it. (thats always the hardest part. I will probably keep that one in my maybe board for a while.

I had an opportunity to look at each individual card in this list and have a few questions :)

As you mentioned above, you're taking advantage of ETB creatures and creatures that sac themselves. Totally makes sense. You also have the majority of your ramp in creatures, which I understand, because you can sac them to provide additional value (a 3/1 token, as well as a land). Those creatures are Dawntreader Elk, Diligent Farmhand (had to Google "Muscle Burst"), Insidious Fungus, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Solemn Simulacrum, Springbloom Druid, Viridian Emissary, as well as your more "huggy" cards like Veteran Explorer and Avatar of Growth. Then you have Wight of the Reliquary to fetch any land.

  1. With all of those lands potentially coming into play, how often are you just sitting with waaaay more mana than you actually have cards to play?
  2. Has 11 basics been sufficient? Most of those effects grab basics. (And I didn't even mention your land fetch cards - e.g. Myriad Landscape I love playing Field of the Dead, but struggle to play more than the original 6 basics (non-snow and snow) because I want to trigger FotD more often.
  3. I only see 1 landfall effect in the entire deck. Is this intentional to keep the power level of the deck lower?

EchoSpice intresting card, it will work in a few combos already in the deck.

And you showed me a card that maybe is not adding a lot in the deck ( Solemn Simulacrum ), because the deck only has 6 basic lands.

Cool deck! I think Goblin Welder would fit nicely in here, its great for triggering ETBs and LTBs, like with Solemn Simulacrum and Ichor Wellspring

This deck has potential, I'm not sure if you're trying to go budget or not but I have a couple of suggestions:

I would get rid of Citadel Siege. And Virtue of Loyalty Your commander does this better than siege and while its not bad its slow for this deck which is the same issue with Virtue since you're already waiting for your 5-6 ish commander. In their stead I would put more advantage cards like Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender and/or Solemn Simulacrum or perhaps Thirst for Knowledge.

If you feel like your setup is fine then you could use some payoff/power cards. You might consider throwing in an Akroma's Will or Insurrection for example or if you get a creature really big you could swing with it then use stuff like Fling

seshiro_of_the_orochi: After some thought, I decided to cut Solemn Simulacrum for Loyal Subordinate!

While our favourite unhappy cyborg friend has some excellent synergies outside of just being a good card, the deck isn't hurting for mana or card draw. :)

At least formally, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is not legal for EDH, so it's a strange decision. I would prefer Ulamog, the Defiler, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, or Zhulodok, Void Gorger as the commander, given legality issues.

Some other small thoughts:

Out: Solemn Simulacrum, Austere Command, Hellrider, Revenge of Ravens

In: Mardu Ascendancy, Vanquish the Horde, Breena, the Demagogue, Fervent Charge

Bringing my curve lower. Vanquish the Horde is effectively a 2-drop emergency plan. And dropping some 4-drops for 3 drops will hopefully help. Mana doesn't seem to be a big issue with all the rocks I have in the deck (TBD).
