Boros Charm

Instant

Choose one —

  • This deals 4 damage to target player or planeswalker.
  • Permanents you control are indestructible this turn. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy this.)
  • Target creature gains double strike until end of turn.

DemonDragonJ on Patriotic Pride

I have replaced Boros Charmfoil, Izzet Charm, and Grand Arbiter Augustin IV with Prismari Command, Prosperous Partnership, and Sunhome Guildmage, which improved the color balance of this deck, because, as great as were, I feel that the newer cards are better suited for this deck.

I have replaced Boros Charmfoil with Sunhome Guildmage, because, while the charm was an amazing card, I believe that the guildmage is better for this deck.

DemonDragonJ on How Can I Put Sunhome …

I would like to put Sunhome Guildmage into these two EDH decks, but I am not certain what cards I should remove to make room, for it. For my Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck, it shall be an easy decision to replace Boros Charmfoil with the guildmage, but I am less certain about my Numot, the Devastator deck, since replacing the charm with the guildmage would leave that deck with one fewer card that would synergize with Whirlwind of Thought and Wandering Mind, so I could possibly replace another card, with the guildmage, instead.

What does everyone else say, about this? How can I put Sunhome Guildmage into these two decks? I certainly would appreciate any feedback that you are able to offer, on this subject.

Nov 9 and 16 Game of Thrones: Khorvath and Sylvia Brightspear's other Dragons lost one game before finally pulling one out. Jesse's boardwipe inadvertently assisted me--Supreme Verdict? thanks to my Boros Charm. Will killed Kelsey on Orzhov Aristocrats, then my Magmaquake took out Kestia, the Cultivatorfoil in response to an aura being cast. Sunforger got Return to Dust, which took out his Sphere of Safety plus another copy. Quicksilver Amulet, with me on six lands, allowed Utvara Hellkite to make 3 other 6/6 dragon tokens and then finally another 6 on the final turn with me on six lands

Now that I'm thinking about it, it's a very efficient burn spell for Boros burn. If you can swing the double white, it is likely to do 8 or 9 damage turn 2, and doesn't lose on rate to something like Boros Charm until your opponent is at 6 life. It's not a great topdeck and it can backfire, but the upside of putting your opponent down to 6 on turn 2 is pretty saucy.

For some extra protection you could run Flawless Maneuver and / or Boros Charm. Maybe Akroma's Will that doubles as a finisher. Just not sure what you would cut for that, you know the deck better I'm sure, if there are any underperforming cards then these would be some good potential protects. Sejiri Shelter  Flip doubles as a land with targeted protection if you can afford to lose a basic Plains.

Since you're in green, you have some pretty good options for ramp for two mana. Oketra's Monument, Rhonas's Monument, Invasion of Ixalan  Flip and Thought Vessel seem to be the weakest. Three Visits, Nature's Lore, and Skyshroud Claim are all very solid options that are much harder to remove. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds can also make a ton of mana and draw you cards.

Cards that seem weaker:
Wayward Swordtooth: You only run 33 lands, I am not sure how often this is going to trigger. With a lower land count you have a lesser chance of having multiple lands in hand.
Akroma's Will: This may be overkill. A better option may be Return of the Wildspeaker because it can also draw you a lot of cards.
Bite Down and Ram Through: Requires you to have a creature of the board. Something either cheaper or more flexible like Swords to Plowshares or Touch the Spirit Realm can be beneficial.
Boros Charm: Unless you play in a token heavy meta, there may better options like Flawless Maneuver or Tyvar's Stand. Both can protect your commander the turn you get it out for cheap.
Virtue of Strength: This card does say basic land and you do only run 18 in the whole deck. Take a look at Mirari's Wake, or you could run Bala Ged Sanctuary  Flip and another ramp spell for basically the same slots.
Kinjalli's Caller, Knight of the Stampede, Marauding Raptor, Otepec Huntmaster, and Atzocan Seer: These cards are definitely thematic, but I'm not sure if they're all better than Delighted Halfling, Birds of Paradise, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Bloom Tender, and Sylvan Caryatid. Especially if you're only casting one big dinosaur a turn. Same for Commune with Dinosaurs < Once Upon a Time

HelixSnapHelix on Aragorn Lucky Charms

Hey Tic12, thanks for looking over the deck and giving suggestions!

I did consider a few of those hybrid colored creatures, but decided to go a different direction with instants/sorceries instead of creature based.

I didn't know about Wild Cantor! That's super solid, I'll add that in somehow. Clout I actually replaced with Shield because I wanted to be able to target Aragorn at times and didn't want to restrict my fight effects or like Boros Charm's double strike etc.
