Description:

The Color LaserJet was HP's first color laser printer; it contained a Konica print engine. The Color LaserJet had upgradable memory and a color print resolution of 300 dots per inch. It could print black images in both A3 and A4 sizes; it could only print color images in A4 size. The Color LaserJet was reasonably priced and very inexpensive to operate compared to competitors of the time. It had a major limitation in that the quality of its color output was relatively poor. Most of HP's inkjet printers of the time could produce higher quality color output. The Color LaserJet 5 (P/N C3961A) and 5M (P/N C3962A) were based on the same Konica engine and introduced in 1996. These printers featured RET 1200, 1200 dpi equivalent output (although still not as good as the low end inkjet printers). The Color LaserJet 5 was priced at $7495 and the 5M was priced at $9195 (including Postscript and extra memory).
