Ending my #Singapore #instatrip with a pretty touristy, but very iconic shot of the downtown core. It’s a lot glitz and glamor, and a lot of money has been pumped into these buildings, but for some reason, every time I pass this scene on my way back from the airport I know I’m home. Thanks for following along! Signing off, @azured #fathomontheroad (at Padang Field)
I avoided @gardensbythebay’s Cloud Forest when it first came out, refusing to give in to the hype. Then I stepped in one hot afternoon this trip, and was totally surprised and delighted by this engineering marvel. So. Much. Fun! #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore (at Cloud Forest Dome)
Spent a lovely afternoon chatting with @fictivefingers’s Hani & Aisah at their gorgeous studio. I want to buy everything!!! Thanks for the inspiration and time, ladies. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore
Kinda blown away by how well our old Supreme Court has been maintained. Also love the quintessentially Singaporean designs next to clear influences from British colonization days. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore (at National Gallery Singapore)
The new @nationalgallerysingapore in the old supreme court and city hall buildings. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore (at National Gallery Singapore)
After two days of cooking, cleaning, celebrating, and so. much. eating, I’m ready for a nice hot bowl of porridge for breakfast. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore (at Redhill Hawker Centre)
I didn’t have a chance to snap a shot of my superhero chef of a dad in the kitchen this Lunar New Year, but I love this vignette of 1950s #Chinatown at the recently relaunched Chinatown Heritage Centre. That’s the same enamel pot my parents cook our traditional new year dish, and that’s the same Good Morning towels you’ll still see in hawker centers around town. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore (at Chinatown Heritage Centre)
Lunar New Year also means serving sweet tea to my parents first thing in the morning on Day 1. Dropped by @tea.chapter for a casual refresher course on tea prep and an excuse to sit down and drink traditional tea on a rainy afternoon. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #singapore (at Tea Chapter)
And you thought cooking a turkey was hard. We always serve fish (鱼) for Lunar New Year because it’s a homonym for abundance (余). #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore #cny2016
Day 2 (初二) morning work in progress. My family hosts my dad’s siblings and all my cousins and all my cousin’ kids for lunch. Always a feast. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore for #cny2016
As Day 1 (初一) winds to a close, the paper-obsessive in me is a little more excited about the textures in this year’s red packet designs than the actual amount of money inside it. (Though that’s always a very nice perk!) #cny2016 #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore
Glutinous rice balls coated in crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, and shredded coconut has been a Day 1 staple in my family for as long as I can remember. 汤圆 (tangyuan) is a close homonym for 团圆 (tuanyuan) which means reunion, hence a popular Lunar New Year dessert. ^^ #cny2016 #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore
In Hokkien culture, we eat lots of prawns for Lunar New Year because it’s a homonym for HA, meant to usher in a joyous new year. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore #cny2016 (at Tekka Market)
Happy year of the Monkey! Loving the cheeky decorations around #Chinatown this year. #fathomontheroad w/ @azured in #Singapore #cny2016 (at Chinatown 牛车水)
