La ricchezza in Italia Rapporto di ricerca

Wealth in Italy. Research Report

Giulio Marcon

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: This research report explores the issue of wealth in Italy, investigating the ‘very rich’ with top incomes and very large assets. Part one provides an overview of the dimensions of wealth, starting from definitions, sources and methods. An international perspective and a focus on the country are provided, with a survey of the empirical evidence on top incomes and wealth in Italy. Part two is based on 30 interviews to very rich Italians on how they view and use their wealth. Issues that are addressed in the interviews include the origin and perception of wealth, the relevance of family and merit, the use of wealth and the exercise of power, the role of finance, philanthropy, the relationship to politics and how policies should address income and wealth inequality. The conclusions provide an interpretation of the evidence and discuss the policy challenges for addressing inequality.
