Abstract:
Many health and environmental issues related to pesticides provide valuable arguments for a reduction in its use. The aim of this paper is to provide some insights for the evaluation of the costs encountered by the agricultural sector if a drastic pesticide ban were implemented. In particular, it is shown that these costs may be substantial due to the dependence of the current agricultural production processes on pesticide use. This is illustrated with the case of the French crop sector.
