Climate change, agriculture, and poverty: A household level analysis for rural Mexico

Alejandro Lopez-Feldman

Economics Bulletin, 2013, vol. 33, issue 2, 1126-1139

Abstract: This note presents results of the relationship between climate change and household level poverty via changes in agricultural income. A Mexican household level data set for the year 2002 is used. Results show that national level analysis can mask significant geographic differences that should be taken into account in the design of policies that aim to decrease rural households' vulnerability to climate change. These findings are a valuable contribution to the limited literature on climate change impacts at the household level.
