Abstract

With the expansion of both the Internet and the advanced information technology development profession, applied computing is of growing interest in both academia and industry. To cope with this important problem, the Research in Applied Computation Symposium (RACS) provides a forum for exchanging highly original ideas about applied computing systems. The RACS aims primarily at researchers who have experience in applied computing systems and are engaged in the design and implementation of new computing applications. Each year RACS brings together engineers and scientists from diverse communities with interests in practical applied computing technologies and creates an environment for them to discuss and report experimental results, novel designs, work-in-progress, experiences, case studies, and trend-setting ideas.

This volume contains the papers selected for presentation at RACS 2011, which was held at Florida International University, Miami, Florida, USA, November 2nd - 5th 2011. There were 218 submissions from 14 countries. Each paper underwent a blind peer review process by three members of the Technical Program Committee (TPC), and 63 papers were accepted for publication in the proceedings of the symposium. The selected papers cover a wide range of topics, including: System Software, Network Computing, Reliable Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Programming Language, and Information Convergence.
