Customisation of the Large Area Picosecond Photodetector for the Upgrade II of the LHCb RICH / Oliva, Federica (U. Edinburgh (main)) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The LHCb is one of the four large experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). LHCb physics program includes studies of CP violation and decays of heavy-flavour hadrons. [...]

Large Area Picosecond Photodetector for the Upgrade II of the LHCb RICH / Oliva, Federica (Edinburgh U.) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The Large Area Picosecond Photodetector (LAPPD) is a new generation microchannel plate (MCP) photodetector that is currently capturing the attention of detector physicists thanks to its excellent timing resolution, high gain and low dark count rate. It consists of a photocathode that responds to a single photon by producing a photoelectron that enters a pair of microchannel plates, where it is multiplied to a million electrons in a fast-rising pulse that is easily detected. [...]

The TORCH time-of-flight detector for Upgrade II of the LHCb experiment / Blake, T (Warwick U.) ; Cicala, F (Warwick U.) ; Conneely, T (Unlisted, UK) ; Cussans, D (Bristol U.) ; Davidson, A (Warwick U.) ; Frei, C (CERN) ; Forty, R (CERN) ; Gao, R (Oxford U.) ; Gershon, T (Warwick U.) ; Gys, T (CERN) et al.
The TORCH (Time Of internally Reflected Cherenkov light) detector is proposed for the high-luminosity UpgradeII of the LHCb experiment. The aim of TORCH is to measure time-of-flight with a 15ps resolution per charged-particle, providing particle identification over the momentum range 2–15GeV/c. [...]

The increase in instantaneous luminosity during the high-luminosity phase of the LHC represents a significant challenge for future detectors. A strategy to cope with high-pileup conditions is to add a fourth dimension to the measurements of the hits, by exploiting the time separation of the various proton–proton primary collisions. [...]

A novel fast-timing readout chain for LHCb RICH LS3 and prototype beam tests / Keizer, Floris (CERN) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The prompt Cherenkov radiation and focusing optics of the LHCb RICH detectors allow the prediction of the Cherenkov photon detection time from a given charged particle to within 10ps. Fast-timing information on the detected Cherenkov photons can therefore be used to significantly improve the particle identification (PID) performance and the signal-to-background ratio of the detectors. [...]

Upgrade of the LHCb RICH detectors and characterization of the new opto-electronics chain / Borgato, Federica (INFN, Padua ; U. Padua (main)) /LHCb RICH Collaboration
The LHCb detector has been upgraded to manage a five-fold increase in the instantaneous luminosity delivered to the experiment during LHC Run 3 and to readout data at the full bunch crossing rate of 40 MHz. The enhanced LHCb RICH detectors now feature Multianode Photomultiplier Tubes (MaPMTs), covering a total area of approximately 4 square meters, and brand-new frontend electronics to comply with the trigger-less readout architecture.
