Novel Materials for Collimators at LHC and its Upgrades / Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Dallocchio, Alessandro (CERN) ; Garlasche, Marco (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gradassi, Paolo (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Rossi, Adriana (CERN) ; Sacristan De Frutos, Oscar (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN ; Turin Polytechnic) et al.
Collimators for last-generation particle accelerators like the LHC, must be designed to withstand the close interaction with intense and energetic particle beams, safely operating over an extended range of temperatures in harsh environments, while minimizing the perturbing effects, such as instabilities induced by RF impedance, on the circulating beam. The choice of materials for collimator active components is of paramount importance to meet these requirements, which are to become even more demanding with the increase of machine performances expected in future upgrades, such as the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). MELISSA: Laser ion source setup at CERN-MEDICIS facility. Blueprint / Gadelshin, Vadim (Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet Mainz (DE)) ; Barozier, Vincent (CERN) ; Cocolios, Thomas Elias (KU Leuven (BE)) ; Fedosseev, Valentine (CERN) ; Formento Cavaier, Roberto (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR)) ; Haddad, Ferid (CERN) ; Marsh, Bruce (CERN) ; Marzari, Stefano (CERN) ; Rothe, Sebastian (CERN) ; Stora, Thierry (CERN) et al.
The Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) has become an essential feature of many radioactive ion beam facilities worldwide since it offers an unmatched combination of efficiency and selectivity in the production of ion beams of many different chemical elements. In 2019, the laser ion source setup MELISSA is going to be established at the CERN-MEDICIS facility, based on the experience of the workgroup LARISSA of the University Mainz and CERN ISOLDE RILIS team.
