Dynamic pressure in the LHC: Influence of ions induced by ionization of residual gas by both the proton beam and the electron cloud / Bilgen, Suheyla (Orsay, LAL) ; Baglin, Vincent (CERN) ; Bruni, Christelle (Orsay, LAL) ; Mercier, Bruno (Orsay, LAL) ; Sattonnay, Gaël (Orsay, LAL)
For the future HL-LHC or FCC study, the understanding of the beam interactions with the vacuum chamber is fundamental to provide solutions to mitigate the pressure rises induced by electronic, photonic and ionic molecular desorption. The proton beam circulating in the LHC vacuum chamber ionizes the residual gas producing electrons as well as positive ions. [...]

DYVACS (DYnamic VACuum Simulation) code: Calculation of gas density profiles in presence of electron cloud / Sattonnay, Gaël (Orsay, LAL) ; Baglin, Vincent (CERN) ; Bilgen, Suheyla (Orsay, LAL) ; Mercier, Bruno (Orsay, LAL)
The computation of residual gas density evolution in the LHC in the presence of proton beams was performed with a new simulation code called DYVACS (DYnamic VACuum Simulation). It is a modification of the VASCO code in order to take into account dynamic effects such as the electron cloud phenomenon leading to an increase of both the electron- and the ion-induced gas desorption. [...]

Ultra-High Vacuum is an essential requirement to achieve design performances and high luminosities in high-energy particle colliders. Consequently, the understanding of the dynamic pressure evolution during accelerator operation is fundamental to provide solutions to mitigate pressure rises induced by multiple effects leading to beam instabilities. [...]

Evolution of the LHC Beam Screen Surface Conditioning Upon Electron Irradiation / Bilgen, Suheyla (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Baglin, Vincent (CERN) ; Della-Negra, Serge (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Jacquet, Dominique (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Mercier, Bruno (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Ribaud, Isabelle (IJCLab, Orsay) ; Sattonnay, Gaël (IJCLab, Orsay)
For the vacuum scientists and the accelerator community, finding solutions to mitigate pressure rises induced by electron, photon, and ion desorption, and also beam instabilities induced by ion and electron clouds is a major issue. Moreover, it is worth noting that the OFE copper beam screen of the LHC is initially cleaned with standard industrial processes, leading to residual chemical contamination. [...]

The PRAE project (Platform for Research and Applications with Electrons) aims at creating a multidisciplinary R&D; facility in the Orsay campus gathering various scientific communities involved in radiobiology, subatomic physics, instrumentation and particle accelerators around an electron accelerator delivering a high-performance beam with energy up to 70 MeV and later 140 MeV, in order to perform a series of unique measurements and future challenging R&D.; In this paper we report the first start-to-end simulations from the RF gun, going through the linac and finally to the different experimental platforms. The beam dynamics simulations have been performed using a concatenation of codes. [...]
