The LHCb VELO upgrade / Rodriguez Perez, P (Manchester U.) /LHCb VELO upgrade group
The upgrade of the LHCb experiment, planned for 2019, will transform the experiment in a trigger-less system reading out the full detector at the maximum 40 MHz event rate. This will enable the detector to run at instantaneous luminosities of $2x10^{33} cm^{-2}s^{-1}$ and probe physics beyond the Standard Model in the heavy flavour sector with unprecedented precision. Evaporative CO$_2$ microchannel cooling for the LHCb VELO pixel upgrade / de Aguiar Francisco, Oscar A (Rio de Janeiro Federal U.) ; Buytaert, Jan (CERN) ; Collins, Paula (CERN) ; Dumps, Raphael (CERN) ; John, Malcolm (Oxford U.) ; Mapelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Romagnoli, Giulia (CERN)
The LHCb Vertex Detector (VELO) will be upgraded in 2018 to a lightweight pixel detector capable of 40 MHz readout and operation in very close proximity to the LHC beams. The thermal management of the system will be provided by evaporative CO$_2$ circulating in microchannels embedded within thin silicon plates. [...]

The Upgrade of LHCb VELO / Zunica, Gianluca (Manchester U.) /LHCb Collaboration
LHCb physics achievements to date include some of the world’s most precise flavour physics measurements, including the CKM phase γ and the discovery of CP violation in the charm sector. These achievements have been possible thanks to the enormous data samples collected and the performance of the subdetectors, with the efficiency and precision of the silicon vertex detector (VELO) being a major contributor to this success. A Silicon Microchannel bi-phase CO$_2$ Cooling for LHCb / Bitadze, A (Manchester U.) ; Akiba, K (Manchester U.)
The Upgrade of the LHCb’s Vertex Locator demands a very low material and yet high heat dissipation cooling solution due to its operation in vacuum and strict impact parameter requirements. The chosen technology for the LHCb VELO Upgrade is a new cooling solution, based on thin silicon microchannel cooling substrate. This technology ensures a low thermal gradient between the coolant temperature and the silicon detector, therefore minimising the reverse annealing in the silicon sensors caused by the radiation damage. The LHCb VELO Upgrade / Dutta, Deepanwita (U. Manchester (main)) /LHCb Collaboration
The LHCb experiment is a forward spectrometer experiment located at CERN, dedicated primarily to study CP violation and rare decays of beauty and charmed hadrons. The LHCb experiment will be upgraded during the current shutdown (2019-2020) to a trigger-less system reading out data at 40 MHz event rate. [...]
