In high-energy particle accelerators, circulating particle beams with high intensity interact electromagnetically with their surroundings (i.e., metallic vacuum chambers of various geometries). These electromagnetic interactions, which are typically described through the concept of beam-coupling impedance, can represent a serious issue in terms of stability of the particle beam and heating on the accelerator structures. We evaluate the temperature effect on the X-ray radiation-induced luminescence (RIL) of differently doped silica fibers obtained via the sol-gel route. Previous investigations showed that these optical materials exhibit interesting dosimetry properties, such as very good detection capabilities and linear response over a large range of dose rate. Mitigation Strategies for the Instabilities Induced by the Fundamental Mode of the HL-LHC Crab Cavities
/ Giacomel, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, Philippe (CERN) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Mounet, Nicolas (CERN)
The transverse impedance is one of the potentially limiting effects for the performance of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). In the current LHC, the impedance is dominated by the resistive-wall contribution of the collimators at typical bunch-spectrum frequencies, and is of broad-band nature. [...]

Solar Particle Event Detection With the LUMINA Optical Fiber Dosimeter Aboard the International Space Station
/ Roche, Martin (CNES, Toulouse ; Lab. Hubert Curien, St. Etienne) ; Balcon, Nicolas (CNES, Toulouse) ; Clément, Florence (CNES, Toulouse) ; Cheiney, Pierrick ; Morana, Adriana (Lab. Hubert Curien, St. Etienne) ; Francesca, Diego Di (CERN) ; Jean-Christophe, Malapert (CNES, Toulouse) ; Kerboub, Nourdine (CNES, Toulouse) ; Marot, Lourdes Oro ; Ricci, Daniel (CERN) et al.
LUMINA, a fiber-based dosimeter, exploiting the radiation induced attenuation (RIA) phenomenon, has been operational inside the International Space Station (ISS) since August 2021. We discuss in this article its capability to detect the possible signatures of recent solar particle events (SPEs) through the related increase of the dose rate (DR) radiation level within the ISS. This article presents a new prospect for radiation detection exploiting the high radiation sensitivity of an ultralow-loss pure-silica core optical fiber (ULL-PSCF). This fiber exhibits very high transient X-ray radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) levels from UV to IR during irradiation, while its RIA quickly returns to a low permanent level after irradiation. Quantification of Neutron-Induced Single-Event Upsets in a Static Random-Access Memory by Clinical High-Energy Photon Beam

The possibility of using calibrated static random-access memory (SRAM) memory for the quantification of neutron fluence in a radiotherapy facility for cancer treatment utilizing a high-energy 15-MV photon beam (Bremsstrahlung) from an electron linear accelerator has been exploited in this work. This has been performed by varying the field size of the photon beam and the positioning of the SRAM memory at three different positions in relation to the isocenter of the beam. [...]

The status of the FCC-ee optics tuning

With a circumference of approximately 91 km, the Future Circular electron-positron Collider, FCC-ee, aims for unprecedented luminosities at beam energies from 45.6 to 182.5 GeV. A major challenge is reaching its design performance in the presence of magnet misalignments and field errors. [...]

Review of MAD-X for FCC-ee studies

The design of the electron-positron Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) challenges the requirements on optics codes (like MAD-X) in terms of accuracy, consistency, and performance. Traditionally, MAD-X uses a transport formalism by expanding the transfer map about the origin up to second order to compute optics functions and synchrotron radiation integrals in the TWISS and EMIT modules. The Future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (FCC-ee) represents a cutting-edge particle physics facility designed to further investigate the Z, W± and Higgs boson in addition to the top quark. The implementation of Nested Magnets (NMs) in the FCC-ee arc cells would maintain high luminosity and reduce its energy consumption. [...]
