Improvements of the SPS slow extraction electrostatic septum / Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Prost, Antoine (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Pirozzi, Fabrizio (CERN) ; Vincke, Helmut (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Kawa, Krzysztof (CERN ; AGH-UST, Cracow) ; Jorat, Louise Olivia (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Roudaut, Noah (CERN ; UTBM, Belfort)
The impact of high-flux protons on the inherent beam loss in the slow extraction straight from SPS towards the North Area has been recently discussed and potential improvements have been proposed. These solutions are mainly aiming to reduce the high component activation and related reduction of lifetime, as well as observed non-straightness in the anode body. [...]

A Combined Testing and Modelling Methodology for the Mechanics of High-Field Superconducting Magnets / Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Holko, Michal (CERN) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Masci, Marco (CERN) ; de Frutos, Oscar Sacristan (CERN) ; Savary, Frédéric (CERN) ; Wolf, Felix (CERN)
The use of superconducting composite cables based on Nb3Sn, an intermetallic compound of Niobium and Tin, is one of the favorite routes to reach magnetic fields higher than 10 T in state-of-the-art accelerator magnets. The brittle and nonlinear nature of the epoxy-impregnated Nb3Sn Rutherford cable makes challenging to predict its mechanical limits and, consequently, the overall performance of the magnet. [...]

Test Results of the First Wax-Impregnated Nb-Ti Canted Cosine Theta Septum Magnet “SuShi” / Barna, D (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Brunner, K (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Atanasov, M (CERN) ; Lackner, F (CERN) ; Olvegård, M (Uppsala U.) ; Pepitone, K (Uppsala U.) ; Kern, Rocio Santiago (Uppsala U.) ; Svanberg, C (Uppsala U.) ; Bagni, T (Uppsala U.)
In the framework of the future circular collider study, a new septum magnet concept (“SuShi”) has been developed, and a prototype was built at Wigner RCP, and tested at the FREIA facility of Uppsala University. The concept uses a canted cosine theta (CCT)-like superconducting magnet and a passive superconducting shield to create a zero-field and high-field region within its aperture. [...]

Training-free performance of the wax-impregnated SuShi septum magnet / Barna, D (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Brunner, K (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Novák, M (Wigner RCP, Budapest) ; Borburgh, J (CERN) ; Atanasov, M (CERN) ; Lackner, F (CERN) ; Olvegård, M (Uppsala U.) ; Pepitone, K (Uppsala U.) ; Santiago Kern, R (Uppsala U.) ; Svanberg, C (Uppsala U.) et al.
In the framework of the Future Circular Collider Study a new septum magnet concept, nicknamed ‘SuShi’ has been developed, and a prototype was built at Wigner Research Center for Physics, and tested at the FREIA facility of Uppsala University in April 2023. The concept uses a canted cosine theta (CCT)-like superconducting magnet and a passive superconducting shield to create a zero-field and high-field region within its aperture. [...]

Design optimization of the water-cooled coil for the LEIR extraction septum / Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Balhan, Bruno (CERN) ; Motschmann, Fritz (CERN) ; Borburgh, Jan (CERN) ; Atanasov, Miroslav (CERN) ; Masson, Thierry (CERN) ; Erends, Vera (Utrecht U.)
A pulsed septum magnet (SMH40) is used for heavy ion extraction from the Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR). A non-conformity on the coil cooling circuit made it necessary to consolidate the design of the septum blade and related manufacturing process. [...]

Mechanical Design of FalconD, a Nb$_3$Sn Cos$\theta$ Short Model Dipole for the FCC / Pampaloni, A (INFN, Genoa) ; Bellomo, G (Milan U. ; INFN, Milan) ; Burioli, S (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Caiffi, B (INFN, Genoa) ; De Matteis, E (INFN, Milan) ; Fabbricatore, P (INFN, Genoa) ; Farinon, S (INFN, Genoa) ; Felice, H (CERN) ; Lackner, F (CERN) ; Levi, F (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) et al.
The future of the particle accelerators points to a new CERN’s circular collider with an order of magnitude increase in the center-of-mass energy compared to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). To achieve this increase from 14 TeV to 100 TeV a 100 km tunnel will be required to host the collider. [...]

Update on the Electromagnetic Design of the Nb-Sn Cos-Theta Dipole Model for FCC-hh / Valente, R U (U. Rome La Sapienza (main) ; LASA, Segrate) ; Burioli, S (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Caiffi, B (INFN, Genoa) ; Matteis, E De (LASA, Segrate) ; Fabbricatore, P (INFN, Genoa) ; Farinon, S (INFN, Genoa) ; Lackner, F (CERN) ; Levi, F (INFN, Genoa ; Genoa U.) ; Mariotto, S (LASA, Segrate) ; Musenich, R (INFN, Genoa) et al.
The Future Circular Collider (FCC) is the main option for the next generation of the High Energy Physics research. The accelerator in hadron-hadron configuration (FCC-hh) requires magnets able to generate fields of the order of 16 T to circulate particles in a 100 km circumference collider and therefore to reach 100 TeV centre of mass energy. The High-Luminosity project (HL-LHC) of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), requires low β* quadrupole magnets in Nb$_3$Sn technology that will be installed on each side of the ATLAS and CMS experiments. After a successful shortmodel magnet manufacture and test campaign, the project has advanced with the production, assembly, and test of full-size 7.15- m-long magnets. [...]

The performance of accelerator magnets is strongly relying on the dielectric strength and mechanical robustness of the insulation system. This is in particular relevant for the current development of high field superconducting Nb 3 Sn magnets with the insulation system made from resin-impregnated glass fibres. [...]
