Development of very-thick transparent GEMs with wavelength-shifting capability for noble element TPCs / Kuźniak, Marcin (Warsaw, Copernicus Astron. Ctr.) ; González-Díaz, Diego (Santiago de Compostela U. ; Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Amedo, Pablo (Santiago de Compostela U. ; Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Azevedo, Carlos Davide Rocha (Aveiro U.) ; Fernández-Posada, D.J. (Warsaw U.) ; Manzanillas, Luis (Munich, Max Planck Inst.) et al.
A new concept for the simultaneous detection of primary and secondary scintillation in time projection chambers is proposed. Its core element is a type of very-thick GEM structure supplied with transparent electrodes and machined from a polyethylene naphthalate plate, a natural wavelength-shifter. [...]

Interfacing Geant4, Garfield++ and Degrad for the Simulation of Gaseous Detectors / Pfeiffer, Dorothea (ESS, Lund ; CERN) ; De Keukeleere, Lennert (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Azevedo, Carlos (Aveiro U.) ; Belloni, Francesca (Saclay) ; Biagi, Stephen (Liverpool U.) ; Grichine, Vladimir (Lebedev Inst.) ; Hayen, Leendert (KU Leuven, Dept. Phys. Astron.) ; Hanu, Andrei R. (NASA, Goddard) ; Hřivnáčová, Ivana (Orsay, IPN) ; Ivanchenko, Vladimir (CERN ; Tomsk State U.) et al.
For several years, attempts have been made to interface Geant4 and other software packages with the aim of simulating the complete response of a gaseous particle detector. In such a simulation, Geant4 is always responsible for the primary particle generation and the interactions that occur in the non-gaseous detector material. [...]

The Resistive-Plate WELL with Argon mixtures - a robust gaseous radiation detector / Moleri, Luca (Weizmann Inst.) ; Amaro, Fernando Domingues (Coimbra U.) ; Arazi, Lior (Weizmann Inst.) ; Rocha Azevedo, Carlos Davide (Aveiro U.) ; Oliveri, Eraldo (CERN) ; Pitt, Michael (Weizmann Inst.) ; Schaarschmidt, Jana (Weizmann Inst.) ; Shaked-Renous, Dan (Weizmann Inst.) ; Marques Ferreira dos Santos, Joaquim (Coimbra U.) ; Veloso, Joao Filipe Calapez de Albuquerque (Aveiro U.) et al.
A thin single-element THGEM-based, Resistive-Plate WELL (RPWELL) detector was operated with 150 GeV/c muon and pion beams in Ne/(5%CH$_4$), Ar/(5%CH$_4$) and Ar/(7%CO$_2$); signals were recorded with 1 cm$^2$ square pads and SRS/APV25 electronics. Detection efficiency values greater than 98% were reached in all the gas mixtures, at average pad multiplicity of 1.2. [...]

Beam Studies of the Segmented Resistive WELL: a Potential Thin Sampling Element for Digital Hadron Calorimetry / Arazi, Lior (Weizmann Inst.) ; Rocha Azevedo, Carlos Davide (Aveiro U.) ; Breskin, Amos (Weizmann Inst.) ; Bressler, Shikma (Weizmann Inst.) ; Moleri, Luca (Weizmann Inst.) ; Natal da Luz, Hugo (Coimbra U.) ; Oliveri, Eraldo (CERN) ; Pitt, Michael (Weizmann Inst.) ; Rubin, Adam (Weizmann Inst.) ; Marques Ferreira dos Santos, Joaquim (Coimbra U.) et al.
Thick Gas Electron Multipliers (THGEMs) have the potential of constituting thin, robust sampling elements in Digital Hadron Calorimetry (DHCAL) in future colliders. We report on recent beam studies of new single- and double-THGEM-like structures; the multiplier is a Segmented Resistive WELL (SRWELL) - a single-faced THGEM in contact with a segmented resistive layer inductively coupled to readout pads.
