High-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy has been performed on singly charged ions of $^{234,235,238}$U at the IGISOL facility of the Accelerator Laboratory, University of Jyväskylä, in Finland. Ten ionic transitions from the $^{4}\hbox {I}_{9/2}$ and $^{6}\hbox {L}_{11/2}$ ground and first excited states were measured in the 300 nm wavelength range, improving the precision of the hyperfine parameters of the lower states in addition to providing newly measured values for the upper levels. Proton-neutron pairing correlations in the self-conjugate nucleus $^{42}$Sc / Koszorus, Agota (Liverpool U.) ; Vormawah, Liam (Liverpool U.) ; Beerwerth, Randolf (Helmholtz Inst., Jena) ; Bissell, Mark (Manchester U.) ; Campbell, Paul (Manchester U.) ; Cheal, Bradley (Liverpool U.) ; Devlin, Charlie (Liverpool U.) ; Eronen, Tommi (Jyvaskyla U.) ; Fritzsche, Stephan (Helmholtz Inst., Jena) ; Geldhof, Sarina (Jyvaskyla U. ; Leuven U.) et al.
Collinear laser spectroscopy of the $N=Z=21$ self-conjugate nucleus $^{42}$Sc has been performed at the JYFL IGISOL IV facility in order to determine the change in nuclear mean-square charge radius between the $I^{\pi}=0^{+}$ ground state and the $I^{\pi}=7^{+}$ isomer via the measurement of the $^{42\mathrm{g},42\mathrm{m}}$Sc isomer shift. New multi-configurational Dirac-Fock calculations for the atomic mass shift and field shift factors have enabled a recalibration of the charge radii of the $^{42-46}$Sc isotopes which were measured previously. (CERN ; MIT) et al.
Tin is the chemical element with the largest number of stable isotopes. Its complete proton shell, comparable with the closed electron shells in the chemically inert noble gases, is not a mere precursor to extended stability; since the protons carry the nuclear charge, their spatial arrangement also drives the nuclear electromagnetism [...]
