Target Development towards First Production of High-Molar- Activity $^{44g}$Sc and $^{47}$Sc by Mass Separation at CERN-MEDICIS
/ Mamis, Edgars (CERN ; Latvia U.) ; Duchemin, Charlotte (CERN) ; Berlin, Valentina (CERN) ; Bernerd, Cyril (CERN) ; Bovigny, Mathieu (CERN) ; Chevallay, Eric (CERN) ; Crepieux, Bernard (CERN) ; Gadelshin, Vadim Maratovich (Mainz U., Inst. Phys.) ; Heinke, Reinhard (CERN) ; Hernandez, Ronaldo Mendez (CERN ; Havana, ISCTN) et al.
The radionuclides 43Sc, 44g/mSc, and 47Sc can be produced cost-effectively in sufficient yield for medical research and applications by irradiating natTi and natV target materials with protons. Maximizing the production yield of the therapeutic 47Sc in the highest cross section energy range of 24–70 MeV results in the co-production of long-lived, high-γ-ray-energy 46Sc and 48Sc contaminants if one does not use enriched target materials. Performance of laser patterned copper plasmonic photocathodes
/ Martinez-Calderon, M (CERN) ; Groussin, B (CERN) ; Bjelland, V (CERN ; Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.) ; Chevallay, E (CERN) ; Himmerlich, M (CERN) ; Lorenz, P (Unlisted, DE) ; Marsh, B (CERN) ; Neupert, H (CERN) ; Rossel, R (CERN) ; Wuensch, W (CERN) et al.
We study ultrafast laser surface nanopatterning as an alternative to improve the photo-emissive properties of metallic photocathodes. By tailoring the physical dimensions of these surface nanostructures, one can localize the optical field intensity and exploit plasmonic effects occurring in such nanostructures. [...]

Copper Surface Treatment with deep UV Ultrafast Laser for Improved Photocathode Photoemissive Properties
/ Groussin, B (CERN) ; Martinez Calderon, M (CERN) ; Marsh, B (CERN) ; Rossel, R (CERN) ; Granados, E (CERN)
Surface nanostructuring is a promising approach when it comes to improving the quantum efficiency (QE) of materials for electron accelerator purposes at CERN. This is due to the plasmonic effect taking place in metallic materials at the nanoscale, when an electromagnetic wave interacts with a sub-wavelength feature. [...]

Labview-Based Template for Enhanced Accelerator Systems Control: Software Solutions for the CERN-ISOLDE Facilities

ISOLDE is part of the experimental infrastructure with-in the CERN accelerator complex that provides radioac-tive ion beams for studies of fundamental nuclear phys-ics, astrophysics, condensed matter physics and medical applications. Complementing the available controls in-frastructure, an easy-to-use set of applications was devel-oped to allow operators to record and display signals from multiple sources, as well as to provide drivers for non-standard, custom-made instruments and specialized off-the-shelf components. Hot electron enhanced photoemission from laser fabricated plasmonic photocathodes
/ Martinez-Calderon, Miguel (CERN) ; Groussin, Baptiste (CERN) ; Bjelland, Victoria (CERN ; Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.) ; Chevallay, Eric (CERN) ; Fedosseev, Valentin N (CERN) ; Himmerlich, Marcel (CERN) ; Lorenz, Pierre ; Manjavacas, Alejandro ; Marsh, Bruce A (CERN) ; Neupert, Holger (CERN) et al.
Photocathodes are key elements in high-brightness electron sources and ubiquitous in the operation of large-scale accelerators, although their operation is often limited by their quantum efficiency and lifetime. Here, we propose to overcome these limitations by utilizing direct-laser nanostructuring techniques on copper substrates, improving their efficiency and robustness for next-generation electron photoinjectors. Fabrication and rejuvenation of high quantum efficiency caesium telluride photocathodes for high brightness and high average current photoinjectors
/ Martinez-Calderon, M (CERN) ; Chevallay, E (CERN) ; Rossel, R E (CERN) ; Jones, L B (Daresbury) ; Zevi Della Porta, G (CERN) ; Marsh, B (CERN) ; Granados, E (CERN)
With their high quantum efficiency (QE) and excellent photoemissive properties, cesium telluride (Cs-Te) photocathodes are the current workhorse in the high average current electron accelerators around the globe. Their ability to generate high brightness and high charge electron beams has opened the doorway to numerous applications, including fundamental particle physics research, radiation therapy, high-energy physics experiments, and high repetition rate free-electron lasers (FELs). Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma
/ AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]
