Merlin++, a flexible and feature-rich accelerator physics and particle tracking library
/ Appleby, Robert B. (U. Manchester (main) ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Barlow, Roger J. (Huddersfield U.) ; Kruecker, Dirk (DESY) ; Molson, James (CERN) ; Rowan, Scott (Huddersfield U.) ; Tygier, Sam (U. Merlin++ is a C++ charged-particle tracking library developed for the simulation and analysis of complex beam dynamics within high energy particle accelerators. Accurate simulation and analysis of particle dynamics is an essential part of the design of new particle accelerators, and for the optimization of existing ones. [...]

Practical Statistics for Particle Physics
/ Barlow, Roger John (Huddersfield U.)
This is the write-up of a set of lectures given at the Asia Europe Pacific Schoolof High Energy Physics in Quy Nhon, Vietnam in September 2018, to an au-dience of PhD students in all branches of particle physics. They cover thedifferent meanings of ‘probability’, particularly frequentist and Bayesian, thebinomial, the Poisson and the Gaussian distributions, hypothesis testing, es-timation, errors (including asymmetric and systematic errors) and goodnessof fit. Modeling Lost-Particle Accelerator Backgrounds in PEP-II Using LPTURTLE
/ Fieguth, Theodore ; Barlow, Roger J ; Kozanecki, Witold
Background studies during the design, construction, commissioning, operation and improvement of BaBar and PEP-II have been greatly influenced by results from a program referred to as LPTURTLE (Lost Particle TURTLE a modified version of Decay TURTLE) which was originally conceived for the purpose of studying gas background for SLC. This venerable program is still in use today. [...]

Simulation of PEP-II Accelerator Backgrounds Using TURTLE
/ Barlow, Roger J ; Fieguth, Theodore ; Kozanecki, Witold ; Majewski, Stephanie ; Roudeau, Patrick ; Stocchi, Achille
We present studies of accelerator-induced backgrounds in the BaBar detector at the SLAC B-Factory, carried out using a modified version ofthe DECAY TURTLE simulation package. Lost-particle backgrounds in PEP-II are dominated by a combination of beam-gas bremstrahlung, beam-gas Coulomb scattering, radiative-Bhabha events and beam-beam blow-up. [...]
