Collimation system studies for the FCC-hh / Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (JAI, UK ; CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Besana, Maria Ilaria (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Cerutti, Francesco (CERN) ; Faus-Golfe, Angeles (Orsay, LAL) ; Fiascaris, Maria (CERN) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) ; Krainer, Alexander (CERN) et al.
The Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) is being designed as a 100 km ring that should collide 50 TeV proton beams. At 8.3 GJ, its stored beam energy will be a factor 28 higher than what has been achieved in the Large Hadron Collider, which has the highest stored beam energy among the colliders built so far. [...]

Mechanical robustness of HL-LHC collimator designs / Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) ; Guardia-Valenzuela, Jorge (CERN ; U. Zaragoza (main)) ; Guinchard, Michael (CERN) ; Harden, Fiona (CERN) ; Pasquali, Michele (CERN) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Skordis, Eleftherios (CERN)
Two new absorbing materials were developed as collimator inserts to fulfil the requirements of HL-LHC higher brightness beams: molybdenum-carbide graphite (MoGr) and copper-diamond (CuCD). These materials were tested under intense beam impacts at CERN HiRadMat facility in 2015, when full jaw prototypes were irradiated. [...]

The High Luminosity LHC project (HL-LHC) foresees the construction and installation of important new equipment to increase the performance of the LHC machine. The Hollow Electron Lens (HEL) is a promising system to control the beam halo. [...]

Novel LHC collimator materials: High-energy Hadron beam impact tests and nondestructive postirradiation examination / Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Guardia-Valenzuela, Jorge (CERN ; U. Zaragoza (main)) ; Redaelli, Stefano (CERN)
The LHC collimation system must adopt materials with excellent thermal shock resistance, high electrical conductivity, geometrical stability, and radiation hardness. Two novel composites, Molybdenum–Carbide–Graphite and Copper–Diamond, are proposed for the LHC collimation upgrade. [...]

Staged implementation of low-impedance collimation in IR7: plans for LS2 / Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Antipov, Sergey (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN) ; Metral, Elias (CERN)
The HL-LHC upgrade baseline foresees to replace all secondary collimators of IR7 until LS3 in order to ensure a sufficient margin for beam stability with the high-brightness upgraded beams. [...]

Dynamic Testing and Characterization of Advanced Materials in a New Experiment at CERN HiRadMat Facility / Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Accettura, Carlotta (CERN ; Milan Polytechnic) ; Berthomé, Emmanuel (CERN) ; Bianchi, Laura (CERN) ; Bolz, Philipp (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Fichera, Claudio (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Furness, Thomas (Huddersfield U.) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) et al.
An innovative and comprehensive experiment (named “Multimat”) was successfully carried out at CERN HiRadMat facility on 18 different materials relevant for Collimators and Beam Intercepting Devices. Material samples, tested under high intensity proton pulses of 440 GeV/c, exceeding the energy density expected in HL-LHC, ranged from very light carbon foams to tungsten heavy alloys, including novel composites as graphite/carbides and metal/diamond without and with thin-film coatings. Progress with Long-Range Beam-Beam Compensation Studies for High Luminosity LHC / Rossi, Adriana (CERN) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Albertone, Joel (CERN) ; Barnyakov, Alexey (Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Bertarelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Boccard, Christian (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Cattenoz, Gregory (CERN) ; Delaup, Yorick (CERN) ; Fartoukh, Stephane (CERN) et al.
Long-range beam-beam (LRBB) interactions can be a source of emittance growth and beam losses in the LHC during physics and will become even more relevant with the smaller '* and higher bunch intensities foreseen for the High Luminosity LHC upgrade (HL-LHC), in particular if operated without crab cavities. Both beam losses and emittance growth could be mitigated by compensat-ing the non-linear LRBB kick with a correctly placed current carrying wire. [...]

Preliminary Mechanical Design Study of the Hollow Electron Lens for HL-LHC / Zanoni, Carlo (CERN) ; Gobbi, Giorgia (CERN) ; Perini, Diego (CERN) ; Stancari, Giulio (Fermilab)
A Hollow Electron Lens (HEL) has been proposed in order to improve performance of halo control and collimation in the Large Hadron Collider in view of its High Luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC). The concept is based on a hollow beam of electrons that travels around the protons for a few meters. [...]
