Applications and Techniques for Fast Machine Learning in Science / Deiana, Allison McCarn (Southern Methodist U.) ; Tran, Nhan (Fermilab ; Northwestern U. (main)) ; Agar, Joshua (Lehigh U. (main)) ; Blott, Michaela (Xilinx, Dublin) ; Di Guglielmo, Giuseppe (Columbia U. (main)) ; Duarte, Javier (UC, San Diego) ; Harris, Philip (MIT) ; Hauck, Scott (George Washington U. In this community review report, we discuss applications and techniques for fast machine learning (ML) in science -- the concept of integrating power ML methods into the real-time experimental data processing loop to accelerate scientific discovery. The material for the report builds on two workshops held by the Fast ML for Science community and covers three main areas: applications for fast ML across a number of scientific domains; techniques for training and implementing performant and resource-efficient ML algorithms; and computing architectures, platforms, and technologies for deploying these algorithms. Beam Test Performance of Prototype Silicon Detectors for the Outer Tracker for the Phase-2 Upgrade of CMS / Andrea, Jeremy (Strasbourg, IPHC) ; Assiouras, Panagiotis (Democritos Nucl. Res. Ctr.) ; Auzinger, Georg (CERN) ; Bhattacharya, Rajarshi (Saha Inst.) ; Canepa, Anadi (Fermilab) ; Chanon, Nicolas Pierre (Lyon, IPN) ; Cherepanov, Vladimir (Florida U.) ; Deelen, Nikkie (UC, San Diego) ; Delcourt, Martin (Louvain U.) ; Dierlamm, Alexander Hermann (KIT, Karlsruhe, EKP) et al.
A new CMS tracker detector will be installed for operation at the High Luminosity LHC\,(HL-LHC). This detector comprises modules with two closely spaced parallel sensor plates and front-end ASICs capable of transmitting tracking information to the CMS Level-1\,(L1) trigger at the 40\,MHz beam crossing rate. New radiation-tolerant thin planar and 3D columnar n$^+$ on p silicon pixel sensors / Boscardin, M ; Ceccarelli, Rudy (INFN, Florence) ; Dalla Betta, G.F ; Darbo, G ; Dinardo, Mauro (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Giacomini, G ; Menasce, Dario (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Mendicino, R ; Meschini, Marco (INFN, Florence) ; Messineo, Alberto (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) et al.
The High Luminosity upgrade of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) calls for new high radiation-tolerant solid-state pixel sensors, capable of surviving irradiation fluences up to a few $10^{16}\\$\,n$_{\rm eq}$/cm$^2$ at $\sim3$\,cm from the interaction point. The INFN ATLAS-CMS joint research activity, in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler, is aiming at the development of thin n$^+$ on p type pixel sensors to be operated at the HL-LHC. [...]

Performance of new radiation tolerant thin n-in-p Silicon pixel sensors for the CMS experiment at High Luminosity LHC / Dalla Betta, G.F ; Boscardin, M ; Darbo, G ; Dinardo, Mauro (INFN, Milan Bicocca ; Milan Bicocca U.) ; Giacomini, G ; Menasce, Dario (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Meschini, Marco (INFN, Florence) ; Messineo, Alberto (INFN, Pisa ; Pisa U.) ; Moroni, Luigi (INFN, Milan Bicocca) ; Rivera, Ryan Allen (Fermilab) et al.
The High Luminosity upgrade of the CERN-LHC (HL-LHC) demands for a new high-radiation tolerant solid-state pixel sensor capable of surviving fluencies up to a few 10$^{16}$ particles/cm$^2$ at $\sim$3 cm from the interaction point. To this extent the INFN ATLAS-CMS joint research activity in collaboration with Fondazione Bruno Kessler-FBK, is aiming at the development of thin n-in-p type pixel sensors for the HL-LHC. [...]

Pixel Sensors with slim edges and small pitches for the CMS upgrades for HL-LHC / Vernieri, Caterina (Fermilab) ; Bolla, Gino (Fermilab) ; Rivera, Ryan Allen (Fermilab) ; Uplegger, Lorenzo (Fermilab) ; Zoi, Irene (Fermilab) /CMS Collaboration
Planar n-in-n silicon detectors with small pitches and slim edges are being investigated for the innermost layers of tracking devices for the foreseen upgrades of the LHC. Sensor prototypes compatible with the CMS readout, fabricated by Sintef, were tested in the laboratory and with a 120~GeV/c proton beam at the Fermilab test beam facility before and after irradiation with up to 2x10$^{15}$ n$_{eq}/$cm$^2$ fluence.
