A systematic Effect in EDM Rings due to radial Offsets of electrostatic Bendings and longitudinal Magnetic Fields / Cilento, Vera (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN)
Optimization and realistic estimates of the sensitivity of the measurement of charged particle Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) in storage rings require a good understanding of systematic errors that can contribute to a vertical spin build-up mimicking the EDM signal to be detected. A specific case of systematic effects due to offsets of electrostatic bendings and longitudinal magnetic fields is studied. [...]

Vertical Spin build-up due to Vertical Offset in Quadrupoles and Horizontal Betatron Oscillations / Cilento, Vera (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN)
Many proposals to measure a possible small Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of charged particles are based on the magic energy concept. Without EDM and for a ring without imperfections, an initial longitudinal polarization of a bunch is maintained in electro-static bendings by operation at a particular energy called the magic energy. [...]

Systematic Errors of a ”frozen Spin” EDM measurement with electric and magnetic Fields due to imperfect Alignment of Fields / Cilento, Vera (CERN) ; Carli, Christian (CERN) ; Haj Tahar, Malek (CERN)
Many of the rings proposed to measure the Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of charged particles rely on a combination of magnetic and electric fields bending the beam to fulfil the ”frozen spin” condition. Imperfect alignment of the two fields bending the beam is known to rotate the spin from the longitudinal into the vertical direction. [...]

Polarized targets at CERN / Niinikoski, T O (CERN)
Reviews present understanding of a polarized target during dynamic polarization. Describes the construction and operation of a frozen spin target and a deuterated target, both cooled by a dilution refrigerator, and reports on the behaviour of polarized targets in high intensity beams based on experience with a /sup 3/He-cooled target in a strong proton beam. Dynamic polarization and relaxation of protons in 1,6-hexanediol and 1,8-octanediol : a feasibility study for a frozen spin polarized target / Borghini, M ; Niinikoski, T O ; Udo, Fred ; Weymuth, P
Results are given of an experiment to test 1,6-hexanediol and 1,8- octanediol for their suitability as materials for polarized proton targets. The samples are doped with 15% Cr/sup V/-glycol complexes. [...]

'Frozen spin' polarized target (at CERN proton synchrotron) / Niinikoski, T O ; Udo, Fred
Describes the construction and operation of a frozen spin polarized proton target used in a scattering experiment at the CERN Proton Synchrotron. The target, made of 1,2-propanediol, has 150 mm length and 17 mm diameter, about 90% average polarization with loss rate 1-5% /day, polarization reversal time of 2 h and solid angle of access of 4 pi *0.94. Frozen spin targets / Parsons, A S L (Rutherford Lab, Chilton, Didcot, UK)
Describes six projects which use the frozen-spin principle: Helium-3 R.M.S. and longitudinally polarized frozen spin targets at Rutherford Laboratory, and the frozen spin targets at KEK, Saclay and the one used by the CERN-Helsinki collaboration. [...]
