Gas jet-based beam profile monitor for the electron beam test stand at CERN / Stringer, O (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Zhang, H (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Butti, D (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Forck, P (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Kumar, N (Liverpool U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. A non-invasive bidirectional beam profile monitor using beam-induced fluorescence upon a thin sheet of gas has been developed at the Cockcroft Institute in collaboration with CERN and GSI. This device is particularly suited to the Electron Beam Test Stand, and as such, a bespoke gas injection has been optimized for this specific use-case to provide diagnostics unavailable to conventional scintillator screens. Overview of beam intensity issues and mitigations in the CERN-SPS fast wire scanners / Veness, Raymond (CERN) ; Guerrero, Ana (CERN) ; Perez Fontenla, Ana Teresa (CERN) ; Harrison, Anthony (CERN) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) ; Zannini, Carlo (CERN) ; Antuono, Chiara (CERN) ; Vollinger, Christine (CERN) ; de la Fuente, Elena (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) et al.
A new design of fast wire scanner was installed in the CERN injector complex as part of the upgrades linked to the High-Luminosity LHC Project. Initial operations with these beams were good, but during the planned intensity ramp-up one early 2023, all four SPS scanners failed at the same time. [...]

Status of Beam Instrumentation at the Electron Beam Test Stand at CERN / Sameed, Muhammed (CERN) ; Ady, Marton (CERN) ; Burger, Stephane (CERN) ; Cenede, Jean (CERN) ; Churchman, Ashley (CERN) ; Coiffet, Thibaut (CERN) ; Devauchelle, Wilfried (CERN) ; Forck, Peter (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Ganesh, Abhishek (CERN) ; Guillot-Vignot, Franck (CERN) et al.
An electron beam test stand has been designed and constructed at CERN as part of the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, in collaboration with the ARIES project, to test components related to the Hollow Electron Lens (HL-LHC) and the GSI Space Charge Compensation Electron Lens (ARIES). This comprehensive test facility incorporates normal conducting solenoid magnets, including horizontal and vertical correctors, which generate fields of fractional Tesla magnitude. [...]

Impedance and thermal studies of the CERN SPS wire scanners and mitigation of wire heating / de la Fuente, Elena (CERN) ; Papazoglou, I (CERN) ; Sito, Leonardo (CERN) ; Andreazza, William (CERN) ; Antuono, Chiara (CERN) ; Bruchon, N (CERN) ; Calaga, Rama (CERN) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Emery, J (CERN) ; Harrison, Anthony (CERN) et al.
All wires of the four CERN SPS rotational wirescanners broke when increasing the beam intensity towards the target for the LHC Injector Upgrade in 2023. Impedance and thermal studies were immediately launched, with simulations and measurements indicating that beam induced heating from resonant modes on the thin wire could be sufficient to cause these breakages. Radiation levels from a beam gas curtain instrument at the LHC at CERN / Prelipcean, Daniel (CERN) ; Sequeiro, Cristina (CERN) ; Schneider, Gerhard (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Ady, Marton (CERN) ; Sedlacek, Ondrej (CERN) ; Veness, Raymond (CERN) ; Garcia Alia, Ruben (CERN)
A prototype Beam Gas Curtain (BGC) monitor was installed at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN to provide 2D images of the transverse beam profile during the ongoing Run 3 (2022 to date) and in view of the High Luminosity LHC upgrade (HL-LHC). By design, the BGC operation generates collisions between the beam particles and an injected gas jet proportionally to the beam intensity and the gas density, possibly causing radiation-induced issues to the downstream LHC equipment. [...]

Chapter 18: Beam Instrumentation and Diagnostics / Bravin, E (CERN) ; Jones, R (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Veness, R (CERN)
The extensive array of beam instrumentation with which the LHC is equippedhas played a major role in its commissioning, rapid intensity ramp-up and safeand reliable operation. Much of this equipment will need consolidation by thetime the LHC enters the High Luminosity (HL) era while the upgrade itselfbrings a number of new challenges that are currently being addressed.Installation of a completely new final focus system in the two high-luminosity LHC insertions implies the development of new beam positionmonitors to equip the upgraded quadrupole magnets. The CERN accelerator complex stands out as an unique scientific tool, distinguished by its scale and remarkable diversity. Its capacity to explore a vast range of beam parameters is truly unparalleled, spanning from the minute energies of around a few keV and microampere antiproton beams, decelerated within the CERN antimatter factory, to the 6.8 TeV high-intensity proton beams that race through the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Beam gas curtain monitor: Vacuum studies for LHC integration and operation / Castro Sequeiro, C (CERN) ; Ady, M (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Chatzigeorgiou, N (CERN) ; Churchman, A R (CERN) ; Kersevan, R (CERN) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Pigny, G (CERN) ; Rossi, A (CERN) et al.
A beam gas curtain (BGC) monitor has been designed to obtain information about the relative position between the LHC proton beam and the hollow electron lens electron beam through a minimally invasive process. Its working principle relies on intersecting the path of both beams with a supersonic gas curtain, introduced transversely into the LHC beamline, to produce a fluorescence signal. [...]

The LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU) project was put in place between 2010 and 2021 to increase the intensity and brightness in the LHC injectors to match the challenging requirements of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project, while ensuring reliable operation of the injectors complex up to the end of the HL-LHC era (ca. 2040).
