Perspectives for quarkonium studies at the high-luminosity LHC / Chapon, Emilien (Beijing, Inst. High Energy Phys.) ; d'Enterria, David (CERN) ; Ducloue, Bertrand (Edinburgh U. ; U. Edinburgh, Higgs Ctr. Theor. Phys.) ; Echevarria, Miguel G. (Alcala de Henares U.) ; Gossiaux, Pol-Bernard (SUBATECH, Nantes) ; Kartvelishvili, Vato (Lancaster U.) ; Kasemets, Tomas (U. We review the prospects for quarkonium-production studies in proton and nuclear collisions accessible during the upcoming phases of the CERN Large Hadron Collider operation after 2021, including the ultimate high-luminosity phase, with increased luminosities compared to LHC Runs 1 and 2. We address the current experimental and theoretical open issues in the field and the perspectives for future studies in quarkonium-related physics through the exploitation of the huge data samples to be collected in proton-proton, with integrated luminosities reaching up to 3/ab, in proton-nucleus and in nucleus-nucleus collisions, both in the collider and fixed-target modes. Proton-Nucleus Collisions at the LHC: Scientific Opportunities and Requirements / Salgado, C.A. (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Alvarez-Muniz, J. (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Arleo, F. (Columbia U.) ; D'Enterria, D. (CERN ; ICREA, Barcelona) et al.
Proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions have long been recognized as a crucial component of the physics programme with nuclear beams at high energies, in particular for their reference role to interpret and understand nucleus-nucleus data as well as for their potential to elucidate the partonic structure of matter at low parton fractional momenta (small-x). Here, we summarize the main motivations that make a proton-nucleus run a decisive ingredient for a successful heavy-ion programme at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and we present unique scientific opportunities arising from these collisions. Heavy quarkonium: progress, puzzles, and opportunities / Brambilla, N. (Munich, Tech. U.) ; Eidelman, S. (Novosibirsk State U. ; Novosibirsk, IYF) ; Heltsley, B.K. (Cornell U., Phys. Dept.) ; Vogt, R. (UC, Davis ; LLNL, Livermore) ; Bodwin, G.T. (Argonne) ; Eichten, E. (Fermilab) ; Frawley, A.D. (Florida State U.) ; Meyer, A.B. (DESY) ; Mitchell, R.E. (Indiana U.) ; Papadimitriou, V. (Fermilab) et al.
A golden age for heavy quarkonium physics dawned a decade ago, initiated by the confluence of exciting advances in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and an explosion of related experimental activity. The early years of this period were chronicled in the Quarkonium Working Group (QWG) CERN Yellow Report (YR) in 2004, which presented a comprehensive review of the status of the field at that time and provided specific recommendations for further progress.
