Search for Majorana neutrinos exploiting millikelvin cryogenics with CUORE
/ CUORE Collaboration
The possibility that neutrinos may be their own antiparticles, unique among the known fundamental particles, arises from the symmetric theory of fermions proposed by Ettore Majorana in 1937. Given the profound consequences of such Majorana neutrinos, among which is a potential explanation for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe via leptogenesis, the Majorana nature of neutrinos commands intense experimental scrutiny globally; one of the primary experimental probes is neutrinoless double beta ($0 \nu \beta \beta$) decay. Axion search with BabyIAXO in view of IAXO

Axions are a natural consequence of the Peccei-Quinn mechanism, the most compelling solution to the strong-CP problem. Similar axion-like particles (ALPs) also appear in a number of possible extensions of the Standard Model, notably in string theories. [...]

Next Generation Search for Axion and ALP Dark Matter with the International Axion Observatory
/ Ruz, J (LLNL, Livermore) ; Vogel, J K (LLNL, Livermore) ; Armengaud, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Attie, D (IRFU, Saclay) ; Basso, S (Brera Observ.) ; Brun, P (IRFU, Saclay) ; Bykovskiy, N (CERN) ; Carmona, J M (Zaragoza U.) ; Castel, J F (Zaragoza U.) ; Cebrián, S (Zaragoza U.) et al.
More than 80 years after the postulation of dark matter, its nature remains one of the fundamental questions in cosmology. Axions are currently one of the leading candidates for the hypothetical, non-baryonic dark matter that is expected to account for about 25% of the energy density of the Universe. [...]

Physics potential of the International Axion Observatory (IAXO)
/ IAXO Collaboration
We review the physics potential of a next generation search for solar axions: the International Axion Observatory (IAXO). Endowed with a sensitivity to discover axion-like particles (ALPs) with a coupling to photons as small as $g_{a\gamma}\sim 10^{-12}$ GeV$^{-1}$, or to electrons $g_{ae}\sim$10$^{-13}$, IAXO has the potential to find the QCD axion in the 1 meV$\sim$1 eV mass range where it solves the strong CP problem, can account for the cold dark matter of the Universe and be responsible for the anomalous cooling observed in a number of stellar systems. An update on the Axion Helioscopes front: current activities at CAST and the IAXO project
/ Dafni, T (Zaragoza U.) ; Arik, M (Dogus U., Kadikoy) ; Armengaud, E (IRFU, SPhN, Saclay) ; Aune, S (IRFU, Saclay) ; Avignone, F T (South Carolina U.) ; Barth, K (CERN) ; Belov, A (Moscow, INR) ; Betz, M (CERN) ; Bräuninger, H (Garching, Max Planck Inst., MPE) ; Brax, P (CERN) et al.
Although they have not yet been detected, axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) continue to maintain the interest (even increasingly so) of the rare-event searches community as viable candidates for the Dark Matter of the Universe but also as a solution for several other puzzles of astrophysics. Their property of coupling to photons has inspired different experimental methods for their detection, one of which is the helioscope technique. [...]

The IAXO Helioscope
/ Ferrer Ribas, E. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Armengaud, E. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Avignone, F.T. (South Carolina U.) ; Betz, M. (CERN) ; Brax, P. (IPhT, Saclay) ; Brun, P. (IRFU, Saclay) ; Cantatore, G. (INFN, Trieste ; Trieste U.) ; Carmona, J.M. (Zaragoza U.) ; Carosi, G.P. (LLNL, Livermore) ; Caspers, F. (CERN) et al.
The IAXO (International Axion Experiment) is a fourth generation helioscope with a sensitivity, in terms of detectable signal counts, at least 10(4) better than CAST phase-I, resulting in sensitivity on g(a)(γ) one order of magnitude better. To achieve this performance IAXO will count on a 8-coil toroidal magnet with 60 cm diameter bores and equipped with X-ray focusing optics into 0.20 cm(2) spots coupled to ultra-low background Micromegas X-ray detectors.
