Irradiation aging of the CMS Drift Tube muon detector / Ferrero, D.D. Redondo ; Abbiendi, G. ; Maestre, J. Alcaraz ; Fernández, A. Álvarez ; González, B. Álvarez ; Amapane, N. ; Bachiller, I. ; Barcala, J.M. ; Barcellan, L. ; Battilana, C. et al.
During the High Luminosity LHC, the Drift Tube chambers installed in the CMS detector need to operate with an integrated dose ten times higher than expected at the LHC due to the increase in integrated luminosity from 300 fb${-1}$ to 3000 fb$^{-1}$. Irradiations have been performed to assess the performance of the detector under such conditions and to characterize the radiation aging of the detector. [...]

Study of the effects of radiation on the CMS Drift Tubes Muon Detector for the HL-LHC / Abbiendi, G. (INFN, Bologna) ; Alcaraz Maestre, J. (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Álvarez Fernández, A. (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Álvarez González, B. (ICTEA, Oviedo) ; Amapane, N. (INFN, Turin ; Turin U.) ; Bachiller, I. (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Barcala, J.M. (Madrid, CIEMAT) ; Barcellan, L. (INFN, Padua) ; Battilana, C. (INFN, Bologna ; U. Bologna (main)) ; Bellato, M. (INFN, Padua) et al. /CMS Muon group
The CMS drift tubes (DT) muon detector, built for withstanding the LHC expected integrated and instantaneous luminosities, will be used also in the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) at a 5 times larger instantaneous luminosity and, consequently, much higher levels of radiation, reaching about 10 times the LHC integrated luminosity. Initial irradiation tests of a spare DT chamber at the CERN gamma irradiation facility (GIF++), at large ($\sim$O(100)) acceleration factor, showed ageing effects resulting in a degradation of the DT cell performance. The performance of the CMS muon detector in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV at the LHC / CMS Collaboration
The performance of all subsystems of the CMS muon detector has been studied by using a sample of proton--proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV collected at the LHC in 2010 that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 40 inverse picobarns. The measured distributions of the major operational parameters of the drift tube (DT), cathode strip chamber (CSC), and resistive plate chamber (RPC) systems met the design specifications. [...]

Commissioning and performance of the CMS pixel tracker with cosmic ray muons / CMS Collaboration
The pixel detector of the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment consists of three barrel layers and two disks for each endcap. The detector was installed in summer 2008, commissioned with charge injections, and operated in the 3.8 T magnetic field during cosmic ray data taking. [...]

Measurement of the muon stopping power in lead tungstate / CMS Collaboration
A large sample of cosmic ray events collected by the CMS detector is exploited to measure the specific energy loss of muons in the lead tungstate (PbWO$_4$) of the electromagnetic calorimeter. The measurement spans a momentum range from 5 GeV/$c$ to 1 TeV/$c$. [...]

Performance of the CMS Level-1 trigger during commissioning with cosmic ray muons and LHC beams / CMS Collaboration
The CMS Level-1 trigger was used to select cosmic ray muons and LHC beam events during data-taking runs in 2008, and to estimate the level of detector noise. This paper describes the trigger components used, the algorithms that were executed, and the trigger synchronisation. [...]

Performance of CMS muon reconstruction in cosmic-ray events / CMS Collaboration
The performance of muon reconstruction in CMS is evaluated using a large data sample of cosmic-ray muons recorded in 2008. Efficiencies of various high-level trigger, identification, and reconstruction algorithms have been measured for a broad range of muon momenta, and were found to be in good agreement with expectations from Monte Carlo simulation. [...]

Commissioning and performance of the CMS silicon strip tracker with cosmic ray muons / CMS Collaboration
During autumn 2008, the Silicon Strip Tracker was operated with the full CMS experiment in a comprehensive test, in the presence of the 3.8 T magnetic field produced by the CMS superconducting solenoid. Cosmic ray muons were detected in the muon chambers and used to trigger the readout of all CMS sub-detectors. [...]
