Modelling V-I Measurements of Nb$_3$Sn Accelerator Magnets With Conductor Degradation
/ Keijzer, Ruben (CERN ; Twente U., Enschede) ; Succi, Giovanni (CERN) ; Willering, Gerard (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Mangiarotti, Franco J (CERN) ; Dhallé, Marc (Twente U., Enschede) ; Kate, Herman H J Ten (Twente U., Enschede)
In the framework of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) project, 11 T dipole and MQXF quadrupole magnets employing Nb$_3$Sn technology have been tested in short and long test configurations. Nb$_3$Sn magnets are more sensitive than Nb-Ti magnets to a potential degradation of their conductors during production, testing, and cycling operation. At CERN, new diagnostic tools and measurement procedures have been developed to investigate, in detail, the performance of Nb$_3$Sn accelerator type magnets. [...]

A 2.5-T, 1.25-m Free Bore Superconducting Magnet for the Magnum-PSI Linear Plasma Generator
/ Eck, Hans J N van (Eindhoven, DIFFER) ; Kate, Herman H J ten (CERN) ; Dudarev, Alexey V (CERN) ; Mulder, Tim (CERN) ; Hervé, Alain (Wisconsin U., Madison)
DIFFER's main experiment, Magnum-PSI, is the only laboratory setup in the world capable of exposing materials to plasma conditions similar to those of future fusion reactors. The success of the Magnum-PSI experiment depends on the generation of a 2.5-T magnetic field without restricting the diagnostic access and operational aspects of the experiment. [...]
