Beam Dynamics Studies Through Dielectric THz Accelerating Structures / Apsimon, Robert (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Appleby, Robert (U. Manchester (main)) ; Burt, Graeme (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Healy, Alisa (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Jamison, Steven (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Latina, Andrea (CERN) ; Smith, Elliott (U. Manchester (main))
As conventional RF accelerating schemes approach the physical limit of accelerating gradient, the accelerator community is increasingly looking at novel accelerating techniques to overcome these limitations. Moving from the RF to the THz frequency range, higher acceleration gradients of high energy beams can be achieved in compact structures. [...]

A High Resolution Single-Shot Longitudinal Profile Diagnostic Using Electro-Optic Transposition / Walsh, David (Daresbury) ; Jamison, Steven (Daresbury ; U. Manchester (main)) ; Lefèvre, Thibaut (CERN) ; Snedden, Edward (Daresbury)
Electro-Optic Transposition (EOT) is the basis for an improved longitudinal bunch profile diagnostic we are developing in ASTeC as part of the CLIC UK research program. The scheme consists of transposing the Coulomb field profile of an electron bunch into the intensity envelope of an optical pulse via the mixing processes that occur between a CW laser probe and Coulomb field in an electro-optic material. [...]

Coulomb field strength measurement by electro-optic spectral decoding system at the CALIFES beam line / Pan, R (Accelerator Science and Technology Centre, Science and Technology Facilities Council, Daresbury Laboratory-UK) ; Jamison, SP (Accelerator Science and Technology Centre, Science and Technology Facilities Council, Daresbury Laboratory-UK) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Gillespie, WA (School of Engineering, Physics and Mathematics, University of Dundee-Nethergate-UK)
Electro-optic (EO) techniques are increasingly used for longitudinal bunch profile measurements. A bunch profile monitor, based on electro-optic spectral decoding(EOSD), has been developed and demonstrated on the CALIFES beam line at CERN. [...]

Role of misalignment-induced angular chirp in the electro-optic detection of THz waves / Walsh, D A (Dundee U.) ; Cliffe, M J (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Pan, R (Dundee U. ; CERN) ; Snedden, E W (Daresbury) ; Graham, D M (Manchester U. ; Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech.) ; Gillespie, W A (Dundee U.) ; Jamison, S P (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Daresbury)
A general description of electro-optic detection including non-collinear phase matching and finite transverse beam profiles is presented. It is shown theoretically and experimentally that non-collinear phase matching in ZnTe (and similar materials) produces an angular chirp in the chi((2))-generated optical signal. [...]

Six UK institutes are engaged in a collaborative R&D; programme with CERN aimed at demonstrating key aspects of technology feasibility for the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). We give an overview and status of the R&D; being done on: 1) Drive-beam components: quadrupole magnets and the beam phase feed-forward prototype. [...]

The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is an e+/e- collider based on the two-beam acceleration principle, proposed to support precision high-energy physics experiments in the energy range 0.5-3 TeV [1]. To achieve a high luminosity of up to 6x1034cm-2s-1, the transport and preservation of a low emittance beam is mandatory. [...]
